Hey guys, I just ordered an Opteron 180 (core lcb9e 0702) from Newegg, I got it today and I tried to overclocking it, I was hoping for 3.0 GHZ, but I was let down when it wouldn't even go 2.8 with a 3.3% volt increase . I was just wondering if anybody had any ideas on how fast this chip could go or any help on how to get the magical 3.0?

Go to the User CP and fill out your system specs so we know what else you are using.:)

Sorry, it's all there now. However when I got the 2.8 I was using 2 gb Samsung UCC DDR400, I had the divider set at 333 though.

Sorry to say this but alot of the higher end AMD CPUs don't overclock as high as the lower end ones.
I have to put my voltage up to 1.45v to get my CPU 100% stable in Orthos.
Anything less and wothout a doubt it will give me an error after a while.

I think you have some headroom with his processor yet. I don't know if your motherboard can handle it or your memory. What are you using for cooling. As a former Opteron user, I know they get mighty warm.

are you sure its your cpu that is causing the no boot. Have you tried putting your ram at the lowest divider and don't forget about your HT bus speed, set that to 3 or so for testing.
What settings are you using:
vcore -
ram divider -
HT multi -
CPU multi -
Ram timings -
Ram Volts -
FSB freq -
etc....
Does the pc boot at all above 2.8 or just black screen???
Not saying it isn't you cpu but it could be something else.
Have you oc'd AMD chips before??? <-- just asking :) so we can tell if you know whats goin on.

I had my HTT all the way down to four and the ram I eventually dropped to 133 @ 2.2.2.5 and I got to 2.9, but it got all the way up to 135F. And I'm using a Thermalright XP-90 with a TNT2 fan cooling, the heatsink is lapped all the way down to the copper, nearly a mirror finish and I have Arctic Silver 5 as my thermal grease.
Oh yeah, and my ram voltage is 1.75 and it boots fine, just get errors in stress tests.
And yeah, I've overclocked AMD's before. I actually had my 4200+ up to 2.75 :D

I know a guy who is using a Opty 180 on a ABIT AV8-3rd eye and has his chip OC'ed to 2.8Ghz @ 1.55v stable.
This guy gets like me very uneven temps in coretemp when running Orthos too even after lapping his CPU, he's using a TT 120 ultra for cooling.
TBH with the motherboard I have now, it needs to have the voltage a tad over 1.45v to keep it stable at 2.6Ghz in Orthos since the vcore fluctuates bad.

I can get my Opty 175 till 3Ghz but takes about 1.5V and does get warm even though I am on water.
I run it at 2.85Ghz with 1.4V 24/7 as I use it for Folding@Home and it is 100% stable.

Some of the higher Opty seem to have trouble clocking as well as the lower ones like the 165.I know Mandelore had a thread here with problems with his 185.Will try and find the link.
EDIT:Found the thread here

I think the problem is that the the sillicon that AMD used back in 0702 was a peice.

i also just got the opty 180 with the latest and greatest stepping. its supposed to easily hit 3 ghz. so i got it up to 2.88 at 1.45 volts and lowered the ram from 400mhz to 200mhz and lowered the HTT to 3 and it boot right up. but in games it just shits the bed after like 20 minutes. maybe i need to up the voltage more? plus, im not really getting any real performance increase between stock 2.4ghz and OC 2.88

Wait...your running only 1.75V threw your DDR??....doesn't it require much more?(my old ballistx need 2.6V)

Is yours also the lcb9e 0702?
See, when I hit 2.9 it was stable, but the volts were 2.48/2.49 and it was at 135/140*F under load. I'd be happy with the 2.9ghz if it wasn't so damn hot. Maybe it's time to upgrade my cooling?
PS. 2.75V* Sorry, typo

yea, its the LCB9E 0702 stepping. i didnt put the voltage that high. i believe it was 1.45 or maybe 1.5 volts and i was able to boot into windows at 2.88ghz. it crashed in game tho. so i guess im gonna have to up the voltage. this weekend i will try and hit 3 ghz and make it stable. honestly, i havnt seen much of an improvement on benchmarks tho after OCing.

I havn't really recorded my OCs vs stock as much as performance vs my 4200+ I guess the only reason I want 3.0GHZ is to tell my friends and to be able to run a 1:1 ratio. Please let me know what your results are. Thanks.

I think mine is 0652 stepping, and 3Ghz is near my limit as anything else is just not stable.
Also like Easy Rhino I seen no real difference running it at 3Ghz for everyday use so lowered it to keep temps in check.

Like I said though, my OCD is driving me crazy not running the 1:1 haha :D

i doubt that will be possible.

2.48v is frying territory for these chips unless it was another typo.
I can understand 1.48v on a XP-90.
Do you have a screenshot of what your max load temperatures are in Orthos after an hour using coretemp?
Unfortunatley with my CPU at 2.8Ghz it needs to have alot of juice = too much heat for my liking 24/7.
Not considering 1.45v is already alot just to keep it stable at 2.6Ghz in Orthos.
Orthos makes Core 0 hovering the mid to low 50's while core 1 is in the mid to low 60's.:shadedshu
My X2 4800+ 939skt stepping is CBBWE 0537.

I just bought this same chip off the egg the other day.. Opty180 LCB9E 0702 for 139$
Im at 12x237(2.84) running 1.425v through it..
It does run rather warm..Im hitting close to 60c in core temp running OCCT for 1 hour..
Im also using the stock cooler.. I have a Tuniq Tower120 that im too lazy to put on because i have to remove the MB.
Running my OCZ platinums 1:1 at 236 @ 2.5-3-2-5 1t with 2.82v
I think the chip has more in it.. I just dont have the cooling
I really dont think these chips have much more than 2.85 to 2.9 in them no matter what voltage or cooling you use..
