I want to flash my X1650PRO Bios to a X1950Pro
I have some questions:
Would it run hotter?
Where would I get the new BIOS?
Would I have to upgrade my cooler?
Would I benefit any?
If I wasn't satisified, could I undo the BIOS flash?
Thoughts/comments? I want to do this, to get better FPS's, and I can't afford a new video card.
TIA

Can you even do that? That's a HUGE jump...

Sure, you can do it.. But the card wouldent work after :D
Its 2 different cores, so no, it wont work :)

That's what I thought.
There aren't a whole lot of cards that can just be flashed to higher ones. They need to have the exact same components on them. You're better off getting a better card. I have a few for sale, but I think I'm gonna hold onto my X1950Pro until I get my new Diamond 3870 all settled in.

I figured it'd be easy..... cause I've read of people flashing "XXXXX" into "XXXXX"

Yeah, but like I said, those cards are essentially the same, except for the BIOS. If you could flash anything to anything, the entire market of high-end cards would be gone.
Flashes usually are possible because a manufacturer has released a cheaper, "slower" version of a more expensive card that they simply couldn't sell enough of. Take the X800GTO2 for example by Sapphire. They took an X800XT and locked four of the pixel pipelines through the bios. A simple bios flash later, and I was running an X800XT for about $200.
Then, they started catching on, and started laser disabling (eradicating) the pixel pipelines. They don't want you to flash to a faster card.

it was the X1650XT that could be flashed/modified to the X1950PRO as they used the same RV570 GPU's
X1650PRO was the RV535 GPU, that could be flashed to a X1300XT if you really fancied it

They are not essentially the same cards, the memory paths are completely different in that you have 128-bit vs 256-bit or 512-bit I cant remember which exactly. And the cores are different also. you might be able to flash a 1850pro to a 1950pro cause they are more simular. but I would not recommend cause you are more then likely going to make you video card useless.

Not his cards. I was talking about cards that can be flashed.

Yes, but your card is not an XT. You can't flash to XT. You can flash DOWN. If you had an XT, you would be able to flash to a 1950Pro.

You gotta look out for this stuff. I bought an nVidia 6800, and two weeks later, I found out about the bios flash for the X800GTO2. I bought one. I'm still to this day trying to sell the 6800 LMAO.

Can I flash my X1600PRO to X1650PRO

Nope, aint possible :) x1600pro is using the r530 core and x1650pro is using the r535 core

Wrong. The X1650XT has a 128 bit bus; four memory chips compared to the 256 bit's eight. It has a laser cut RV570 core; the RV670. Flashing it will never work.
Then can I flash it to an x1600XT, which is also r530?
Forget about flashing, if you don't even know if it will work don't even try. There are GDDR2 and GDDR3 version of the card moreover... why dont you just overclock the card?

The only card i flashed was the ATI Radeon 9550 to a 9600, that saved me quite a lot of money at the time (the tutorial is on this website)

Correct. If flashing it to a 1950 was possible it would of been all over the net a while ago.

NO :slap: different cores, etc.
flash it, and then you'll have to buy a new BIOSTAR video card :)

of course you can flash the bios, the card will just be inoperable afterwards. wizard accidentally flashed an x1900xtx with an x300 bios before. it took some crerative thinking on his part to get the x1900xtx to work again.

Best answer. I agree.
I wish this were one of those Yahoo Answers things, and we could put that one in big letters at the top under the question :D

Does your 1650 pro overclock any? My brothers AGP one won't overclock at all. So worth seeing if it overclocks before thinking about reflashing.

This thread is nothing but full of misinformation. The answer to all of your flashing questions for what I can tell is NO! Thread closed.
