View Full Version : Thinking of going water cooling

Im thinking of going with the Thermaltake LCS since it has a triple radiator with 3x120mm fans on the front of the case (which would help me out a lot). I need help chosing what kind of water blocks (CPU, GPU, and maybe NB), tubing, and anything else that I need to buy such as fittings or w/e. Im not in anyway knowledgeable about water cooling but I am interested to try.
I will be overclocking as far as I can push it.
My system specs are under my avatar. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
As for right now, I just want to shop around and compare prices and what not. Not buying outright straight away.
TIA.

You can take a look at the watercooling club (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=52032) in my sig for additional options. I would go with a D-tek Fuzion for the CPU and Maze5 for the GPU. As far as tubing goes I think you need 3/8". Doesn't it come with tubing?

ill say this right now and i know alot will agree with me. Stay away from any TT watercooling kits. They're complete garbage.
You're better off building your own system. All you need is radiator, pump, cpu water block, and fittings/hoses (optional reservoir)
good brands to go by Danger Den and Swiftech

tt kits are preety decent, but i've heard many stories of bad TT pumps, so if you do buy a tt kit, replace the pump OR just build a custom kit
how about this (off of the top of my head:)
3/8 or 1/2 primoflex anti-kink tubing
swiftech apogee gtx extreme cpu block
either a dangerden or swiftech xx80 block with the swiftech g80 heatsink kit
swiftech pump
swiftech clear and small res or xspc passive cooling res
black ice 360 rad or thermochill with some good performance fans that fit your dba range.

Never said I was going to use the kits. :) I know they are garbage. Ive heard a lot of bad things about them. If anything, I would use the built in RAD and maybe the tubing.
Why would the reservoir be optional? Would I be better off with or w/out one?

Anyone know of a good CPU water block with blue LED's by chance? If not or none exist, that's cool. It would just be a plus. :D

I myself have experienced problems with TT pumps seizing. Swiftech pumps and CPU blocks are supposedly good. VGA blocks range in price depending on what brand you require (full block suitably), buy decent coolant, non conductive preferrably.

How much tubing should be required? 10 suffice?
What sort of coolant should I go? (preferably blue)

I would also like to have a fitting in the hose so that way I can empty it that way. Ive seen it in some PC's.

Well, not sure about the coolants as I've only used Koolance and Zalman's. Don't use koolance as the shit is conductive, is messy when spilt and leaves residue. Koolance connectors though are pretty damn good from experience, the cooling blocks are passable but there are better options. BTW, you can not use Tygon tubing with Koolance connectors as the outer wall thickness is larger and can not accept the fittings.

the reservoir makes it easier to refill/top off your coolant. Same can be done with just a simple "T" line.

But from a "T" line, I have read that it can take longer to bleed out?

Depressurise the loop at the resevoir if you have the option and then bleed at the tee, it'll be quick.

yeah the fillport/t-line is alright I did not like it, but most do, also since it's your first w/c swaree get lik 15' tubing just to be safe, definately get a full coverage block for the gpu(way better), and the gtx or the fuzion are great blocks also ek makes a good one, I bought a line bleeder for real fast bleeding action just unscrew the cap and turn the pump on and within 15 secs, done!
