Ok i have taken a picture of what i think is the VRM's on this board and wasnt sure if it actually was.. Sorry for the bad pic quality its my phone and late at night..

I believe you've got it - those rows of chips towards the edge of the card should be the VRMs on that board

Ok then thanks imperial.. Then where would the MOSFETs be?

Anyone have any ideas?

Those chips near the edge are actually the MOSFETs, VRMs vary in size and shape, you'll likely have to look up the part numbers on each chip to find out what they are.

Oh i c.. Thanks. By looking up each part number on the chip you mean the GFX card right?

What number would it be under if you have any idea?

MadCow
04-05-2008, 01:45 AM
I mean typing the numbers on all the chips you can find into google and seeing what is what. Eventually you should find a datasheet or something for the vreg.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to know?

Oh righto thanks m8.. :)

Because i have to underclock my card to be able to run games without them crashing.. due to the VRM's but im on a mission now.. Thanks alot though mate..

If the VRMs are the issue, attach a ramsink to them, don't underclock.

The VRMs might also be on the front, they are on my HIS X1950 PRO.

The x1950xtx has a cooler on the VRM's, the AC S1 has a VRM cooler that is compatable with it and works quite well..they do get very hot though, with Everest Ultimate I was seeing around 120C under load while OC'd with increased vGPU voltage.

You should consider better cooling for that card, it's got great potential, and you shouldn't have to underclock it, but that could be a sign of component failure.

I believe Domx800 still has an x1900xt, you may try to find and contact him (that's not his entire name).

Here we are....you have a x1950pro.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/GeCube/X1950Pro_Champion/images/card5.jpg

Thos mosfets at the end are the VRMs. But if your card is coming up as a XT model then I would guess you got ripped off and thats why you have to underclock your card to be able to run games without them crashing. :(

Frank- Is that the older x1950 pro, my looks totally different than that card.

same here - I'm guessing that's a Sapphire or HIS 1950 PRO, seeing as how it's a dual slot card. Most of the mid-tier 1950 PROs are single slot, and have a different PCB layout (especially later revisions), and the XT is a completely different beast compared to the PRO.

If you're up for doing some research, this thread: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=23146 has a ton of useful information on the differences between the cards and card models, and what components are what on the PCBs

If I'm not mistaken - those were the early release 1950 PROs;

the newer mid-teir revisons looked like this:

the upper-teir cards were all different, though.

OK ill try get some more pics going today.. Well it is a possibility i was ripped off but i bought a X1950Xt 256MB the sapphire version and that card was having severe artifacting so i RMA's the card and i got this one with a accelero x2 cooler on it..

The picture frank posted is the exact layout of the back of the board..

Now in everest ultimate. it says X1950XT but i have flashed the bios to a newer XT and the core in everest in the R580 which is correct am i not right? The Pro versions are R570??

Now im very concerned about the card as maybe i was gicen a 512 MB pro version when i RMA'd :(

Yeah its 512 MB card the core says R580
Well i sent them my old one in a brown box i got inside the retail packaging and i got the new one in the same box.. They also said that it would either be the same card or a better one.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ATI/X1950XTX/images/vreg_heatsink_screws.jpg

its from a X1950XTX but that's how my layout is

DOM
04-05-2008, 12:15 PM
cuz you flashed the bios ? with which brand ?

Th3-R3as0n
04-05-2008, 12:19 PM
With the GeCube Bios.. the 512 MB version and it worked fine..

Another thing to note my card is only a single slot card not dual.. and it came with a different cooler although they are the same model numbers there..

DOM
04-05-2008, 12:23 PM
are you using XP ?

if you have to under clock rma cuz did you have to when you first got it ?

Th3-R3as0n
04-05-2008, 12:27 PM
Yes i am.. yeah after a week or two i had to underclock and i didnt have my watercooling then..

Wont the warranty be voided as i have put a waterblock onto the card?

DOM
04-05-2008, 12:29 PM
idk just put the stock one back on and dont tell them :p cuz you had it on water ? would the back of the card get hot ?

Th3-R3as0n
04-05-2008, 12:31 PM

DOM
04-05-2008, 12:32 PM
do you got good air flow in the case ?

Th3-R3as0n
04-05-2008, 12:35 PM
I have a 140MM fan in the front and a 120mm in the back.. aswell as a extractor fan in the case..

Problem: i cant find the screws that hold the Stock cooler onto the GFX.. :(

CrackerJack
04-05-2008, 06:01 PM
yeah if you but the stock cooling back on, there not going to no the difference.
