If you plan to OC later, you may want a beefier HSF. I would also go with MX-2 instead of AS5. In my tests, it's a couple of degrees cooler than AS5. Ram? Try Buffalo Firestix. I currently have 4x1GB, 1000mhz 5-5-5-11 on 2.1v. They are like $110 at Directron.com.

Paulie, he's looking at the 790i...so surely he needs DDR3?

+1, I thought that was the difference between the 780 and 790,
that the 790 uses DDR3. Not to worry, you can get 2G at newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147+1052129233+1052308477&name=2GB+(2+x+1GB)) now for like 110 bucks! And its 1333mhz.

**just click the newegg link!!

Also!! For like 50 bucks more, why dont you step up to the 9800GTX??

Its a great card, basically the same as the GTS, but its faster!

Most definitly, I wouldnt be worried about the lower memory, with the speeds its running at their is still plenty of bandwith for the GPU to keep up. I would only worry if you game at 2560x1600, I game with 512 at 1920x1200, I dont think ull have any issues!

The way I look at the 50 bucks, if you cheap out now, you can never just go back, throw in 50 bucks, and move up, it would cost the full ~300 to do it! Spend it now, or regret it later :)

honestly, I just get everything from newegg now. When you get it all from one place, you save alot on shipping, and newegg is always great prices. If they are not the lowest they are usually within a few bucks

this is so true! I try to find the items with the instant rebates over the mail in. But sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. I buy all parts from the egg, I will shop around if Im only buying saying one part, or maybe water cooling parts, but when it comes to building a computer, I just do it all there.

Newegg is really good about getting ur order out right away, and they package everything really well. Decreasing the potential of damage during shipping. Plus the OEM hardware can make prices nicer on HDs and Procs and optical drives

yeah but ddr3 is soo much faster than ddr2!! the timings are a tad looser but they clock faster and require less voltage!! also dude, get that gtx!! the 8800gts is an alright card but it has alot of driver issues and with the 9 series out they are going to phase out the 8 series. just my opinion ;)

Specs updated I agree the 9800gtx is the better one if your not up grading from the 8800's considering my present nVidia is a GeForce 4 I think im ok lol

what are the power requirements for the 9800GTX? A 700w PSU is probably sufficient for what you have listed so far, but if you plan to SLi or go for a Quad in the future you might be pushing it.

700w should handle one of them no problem, and a good one could most likely handle too unless you've added a lot of periferials by then. The 12V rails are the most important there (for sli), 20-30 for one and 50+ for 2. This is the one I got, solid as a rock and a nifty blue light (if your into that), and 72A on the 12V rail. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

the silverstones go up in reasonable increments 700/750/800 plus above 700 they're tier1 guess that kicks the corsairs out...I like modular cables i.e. flexibility
I plan on building several "up grades" in this box over the coming years so a little overkill on the psu wont hurt, the case is also silverstone so i might get a deal there ha ha
