Today at work I lapped my Athlon 6000 X2 and so far I see promise. Before I did this my idles were 40-41, keep in mind that is with the AS5 curing for about 8 months. I plugged here in and right now my idle is 37-38 and it says it is dropping.

I did take some pics on my cell phone so I'll get them posted if anybody is interested.

Yeah, your going to get some good results if you lap the chip or heatsink right. It's just best to start with stuff that isn't costing you an arm and leg to replace... Thats the way I look at it. Once you learned the ins and outs then you'll be set to try that 300 dollar processor!

Well, CPU lapping seems to be more useful on Intel processors since their heatspreaders seems to be a little concave, in the opposite hand, AMD ones are meant to have a good flat IHS, as my 6400+, or many others.

And well, i don't think to lap it's worth it, i didn't lap my CPU but i did it with my HSF, and on full, the temps were 5-7ºC better constantly, so lapping was really good and cheap for me, have you tried to lap your HSF and then try if they drop again?

:toast:

ps: i still didn't lap my cpu cause i don't want to fuck it, i'll do it within a few months

I used alot of practices that I learned from my Dad watching him sand cars. I noticed I received the best shine when I would wet the paper instead of doing it dry like alot of tutorials recommended.

No but since I'm going to be updating my motherboard real soon I'll have an excuse to do it.

My OC temp is going down!!! :rockout: Maybe I won't have a reason to upgrade my board now :(

Its a good learning way of life.. you might feel the need to get that new things. Yeah, its cool now, but whats that you been thinking of?? Might be worth lapping that thing also! you never know...
But if you feel there is no need since the temps are down, then do it!

The Ka3 MVP cpu volts only go up to 1.45 but CPU-z shows major jumps from 1.459-1.42 but Orthos test for 1hr passed without issues so I'm going to let it run all night when I go to bed.

Lapping my cpu and my cooler base dropped my temps 10c ;)

I am not sure if I have been giving the correct temps. I have been giving "Local" in speedfan but anyways I thought I'd give an update. Local at idle says 36 and Core at idle reads 24-26. While at Load with Orthos Local reads 40-41 and Core reads 38-40. I am very impressed with the lapping and now I think any cpu here after will be lapped.

Lapping for the win. I'll be doing a before and after once I've got the funds to invest in the equipment used to do all this lapping malarkey.

Good stuff Kenkickr!

Are those pretty good temps? Also when I was reading on some of the lapping tutorials I noticed alot of them said the Intel's are very concaved. IF this is the case I think I might recommend this done to my friends Cely 1.6 Dual core(he is waiting for the 45nm Quads). Also the sharpie trick is an awesome idea(used to see your flatness progress).

yeah, the small tricks to lapping is what makes you learn in the beginning. If you know what your doing, and your friend is looking at something to do, then by all means go and do that cely!
Aza, I would do that cooler. that way you have a feeling of what your doing. Go with our lapping guide that, I believe, Erocker made up. Some good stuff right there.

I might lap my 5000+BE eventually. Wanna keep it alive until I'm ready for a tri/quad. If I can't sell it next year, it'll be salvaged into a 3rd PC. I lap all my heatsinks though :)
