Microsoft Resumes Automatic Download of Windows Vista SP1 Prerequisite SSU Patch

Microsoft today said that it would resume automatic distribution of the Servicing Stack Update (SSU) needed for installing Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). On February 12th, Microsoft first began pushing the Servicing Stack Update (SSU). While several million customers installed the updates successfully, many users reported endless restart problems with their PCs caused by the KB937287 SSU patch. This prevented them from successfully installing the Vista SP1. Microsoft then suspended automatic distribution of the SSU, until now. Starting from tomorrow, the fixed SSU patch will be available for automatic download via the Automatic Update feature on Windows Vista OS. The company also revealed more information today about the root cause of the endless reboots. "SSU has special code to check whether there are any pending reboots or other updates to install, ... How does this effect those of us already on SP1? Will we have to download the patch as well, or are we exempt from it since we're already SP1?

I would think that we are already exempt from it. I believe the patch was released prior to
installing SP1 to AVOID having the continuous reboot problem. So, If your running Vista SP1 and booting into it fine, then this patch is worthless to you. Anything else it updated is either updated in SP1 or addressed in windows update soon after install. SO, you should be all good without. (Just like me) ;)

your exempt, because you already have the ssu kb in question installed sucessfully.

to put in my two cents,
the reboot loop was one of many problems this nasty update caused people.
i have seen this update change paths of system critical startup driver and system files.
i doubt that if they only modified how it prepares itself or how it installs, that these problems are going to be corrected by this, i had to call m$ half assed technical support when i had encounted a month long nightmare thanks to one of these two 'ssu' updates, and u wanna know what the technician advised, 'wait for sp1 it will have the correct drivers for you to install the ssu' righto. get sp1 when i cant get the update to install the sp1. good work jackasses, they also googled the startup error code i had given them for my particular update, so turns out m$'s own staff dont even like live search, how bout that.

I installed one that finally (like 30 mins of "completing") came up and it was unusable. The whole GUI and options were corrupted. I BARELY was able to uninstall it (took about 30 mins to figure it out as the regular way was disabled).

i was told that people with some msi model motherboards will also allways get their boot sequence broken from installing the ssu by ms. how can this update affect a pc so badly, why wouldnt they pack some basic driver infs or somthing with the ssu to ensure that most common brands work properly?

I was lucky with that update all it did was not install properly manually dlin and installing did the trick.
