Apparently, someone noticed that diamonds have a high thermal capacity.

Credit goes to a friend on MSN for finding it.

Wouldn't that be a bit expensive? Looks awesome tho nice find.

there's a cheaper method: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/7038/thr-41/Innovation_Cooling_Diamond_7_Carat_Thermal_Compoun d_-_15_Grams.html?tl=g8c127

granted, it's of a synthetic diamond compound . . .

Expensive as far as thermal paste goes. Not too expensive for a +10c drop in temps.

The IC7 doesn't seem to give much drop over AS5. I'd like to see it paired against Arctic Cooling's MX-2.

yeah, it's expensive for what little bit you get, but does supposedly work much better than AS5.

I've heard, though, it has a tendancy to eat up the base of a HS a bit over time.

Interesting find! :D

I've been using it for a while now, its ok... The thing I hate about it is that it can be pretty hard to apply. Its like really think stuff. You have to press on it then see how its shaped, if you ever get you would see what I'm talking about. Performance wise, its not bad.

I have a thread floating around about this. I use it. Should be in teh cooling section.

EDIT: Yep...here we go.

I'm totally making my own! I know where to get both materials locally!:rockout:

10-20ºC better than AS5?
Riiiight-o...

yeah there is not a 10c differnce! I use it and it get's MAYBE 3c better but no more than that, I use it cuz it is better than as5 and is not thermally conductive.

Yeah okay...Im lying because I have a reason too.

I always wondered why no one ever picked up on this. They are such great heat conductors.

I think the whole 10C claim is - maybe, possibly if you're using a stock heat sink and both the HS and CPU haven't been lapped . . . yeah, then you'd prob see a 10C difference over AS5.

But for those of us with better coolers, lapped CPUs and coolers, you might be game for a 1-3C difference.

Im using a Thermaltake V1 CPU cooler on what used to be my Q6600 (and on my current X3350) neither CPU or HSF are lapped.

I saw the stuff on FCPU awhile ago, but I've been a little hesitant to pick some up. How big of a difference did you see with it?

Curious, also - does it run cooler after a "cure" time like AS5 does? And, do you need to reapply occasionally like sometimes has to be done with AS5?

Diamond paste does not need a cure. It works straight away.

Ive never kept a HSF on long enough to find out if I need to reapply it.

neither have I

I might just pick up a tube of the stuff next time I order something - what's there to lose, eh? :toast:

I got a big ol' tube of silicon grease today! Tomorrow, I'm driving over to a jewlery shop a few towns over to pick up the diamond powder. A ten degree difference is mighty welcome!!

you'll defi have to post an update once you've got the goo mixed up and applied!

if it really is 10c better than as5 then why hasn't one of these companies snapped it up yet. I mean yeah its $30 or whatever but 10c is a fuckin BIG improvement.

I am sceptical but if I had a desktop I would definitely give it a go... :)

Oh yes! I figure I was going to mix it and try it out once I get my computer workbench in. As of right now, I have to remove my motherboard from the case to take my cooler off.:ohwell: Perhaps I'll show some pics of the mixing process anyways. I should have a lot of it once I'm done, so perhaps I'll send some samples off too!:toast:

10 degrees is quite a big differance considering, i think 1 - 2 degrees differance can kill people so 10 degrees might be the differance between a sweet oc and a burned chip.
