ok have an extreme audio, pcie with vista x64 and the modded drivers dont work it says cant find any supported hardware blah blah blah, and just took 10 mins downloading the ones from the creative website and yet again the same F***ing thing the only drivers this POS works with are the default ones vista installs and its only recognised as "high definition audio" not xfi/creative anything, this is really winding me up now, even took the side off and checked the model number SB0820 and reseated it, to no avail all the drivers refuse to acknowledge its even there and im close to taking it out and chucking it out the window

i had that problem too, its because the xtreme audio isnt a real x-fi and doesnt work with the real x-fi drivers, you can pretty much only ever use the ones off the cd, atleast thats been my experience, hope u have the cd, if you dont email me or something

welcome to the world of creative.

on a more serious and helpful note, have you tried daniel_k's new vista modded drivers?
also, FYI, xtreme audio doesn't have the x-fi chipset, it just emulates some of the functions of the x-fi, its a c-media chip just like all of the other audigies, and im not sure if x-fi features in game will work on your card.

send me the drivers plz, if thats the case why the tw@s at creative actually show a driver download for it and make you download all 70mb of it knowing it isnt going to work, is it some kind of joke im not getting ?

well well well, what a bunch of tossers creative seem to be, there newest/most recent drivers dont even detect my x-fi yet the ones that came with the card on cd do (who installs drivers off a cd? you always get the most up to date) anywho, i got my xfi installed and am wondering to get the modded ones to work can i just reinstall over them ? i wouldnt normally condone this but seen as it wasnt even recognised until now there is no other way to get the daniel_k ones installed, or will that just cause me more upset and sorrow lol ?

ok after a lot of unneccesary messing about i got it working with the original driver cd which must be 1.5yrs old and then it updated drivers from the internet, anywas long story short i cant believe how much ive missed my x-fi xtreme audio because the difference between this and the onboard is nothing short of a miracle, debating wether to install the modded drivers now as i dont want to mess anything up, man my headphones are like twice as loud and i can hear every different instrument being played, think ill stay how i am until i get my games installed (x64 installation is 2 days old) and see if i have any issues then..

Moral of the story X-FI card extremely good, driver/software support non-existent without the original CD.

(wow my music sounds fantastic lol, didnt realise when i had onboard until i got this badboy working again :D )

yeah, dont bother with the modded drivers, they are for x-fi and your card isnt an x-fi, i know i have one of those exact cards, the pci express xtreme audio, its just like he said, a c-media chip, it sucks so bad, well actually... its kind of cool i guess, but it doesnt have anything my onboard soundcard has, oh that reminds me, anyone want mine? I'l trade it for um, gee i dont know, some nes games or something lol

just to correct ya - the XA uses a Creative chipset, just like the Audigys and Live!s did. C-Media is Creative's competitor :p

Anyhow - yeah, the XA drivers are HORRIBLE, especially in Vista64. Creative has a real bad habit of not reporting correctly what OS is supported by what driver pack (i.e. WIN XP Media Center Editions were reported as "supported" for X-Fi drivers for the longest time, when in truth they weren't - only the installation CD drivers worked).

I've heard that Daniel_k's XA drivers do function correctly, so it's definitely worth looking into. I also don't expect to see any real support for Creative's official Vista drivers any time soon, as many peopl haveing been having problems across the board with different card models.

oh my bad, i thought they were c-medias...
btw, didn't c-media get bought out by creative a while back?

no, they're still independant. Creative hasn't acquired any other company (that I know of) since Aureal.

C-Media is used by Razer, ASUS, Auzentech, HT Omega, and just about every other audio manufacturer. Also used with some on-board solutions as well.

think youll find that the modded drivers state they DO support the X-FI Xtreme Audio, as per the title "XFXA_PCDRV_LB_1_04_0078A" XFXA denoting xfi xtreme audio (although dont support mine funnily enough lol ) and i dunnow what onboard your running but this sounds a hell of a lot better than mine realtek hd somthin or other, music crisper, clearer bass, less tinny overall better quality of music. but thats just my opinion

There is official driver (http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?DriverLang=1033&searchString=XFXA_PCDRV_LB_1_04_0079.exe&x=31&y=13)on creative downloads site (http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/) for x-fi xtreme audio card.
You do not need CD. Just download and install it. Or google the file name:
XFXA_PCDRV_LB_1_04_0079.exe

do you not think i tried doing that in the first place thats what this whole thread is about :slap: it wasnt being recognised by either the modded drivers OR creatives latest drivers from the creative site so YES i did need the cd as no other drivers were even recognising my card

I supposed the driver I linked to might be a different one from what you tried so far.
It is XFXA_PCDRV_LB_1_04_0079.exe not XFXA_PCDRV_LB_1_04_0078A.exe that you mentioned...
Do both 79A and 79 not work for you without CD? In the release notes for 79 it does not lists CD as the requirement so I thought this version might have solved this problem.

I tried all the drivers made for x-fi. But none work for the SB0820. That's crazy...

Someone please send me the CD drivers, as I too can't use my card. Or find my CD.

Thanks...

p.s. I'm using XP SP3

Use the software auto-update feature and it will search for the right drivers. The vista modded drivers work on my X. audio but it`s pci
