Could someone help me real quick? I just downloaded Riva Tuner v2.08 and for some reason i can't raise the Shader on my XFX Geforce 8400gs. It just has the option to overclock the Core and Memory but not the Shader. I know the shaders can be raised on this model because i was reading on another site about it being raised from 1188 to 1512. Do i need to download another program to do this? I'm putting another heatsink (old one is Passively Cooled)on it to overclock it within a week so i just want to get the programs i need to do so. Thanks.

Anyone? I have already done the RivaTuner mod where you set the values of NVAPIUsageBehaviour and NVAPIShaderClockControl to 1 but for some reason it still doesn't show up.

I OC'ed my Evga 8400gs to 650Mhz core, and 600Mhz Memory. I think I linked my shaders on it also but that card is just sitting in a box since I no longer have a need for it.

Do you want me to take pictures?:)

You got yours to 650 Core? Dang i don't expect to get mine past 580 Core based on some of the sites ive been to because i don't think i can volt mod it without burning it up and volt modding is from what i read the only way to push this card over 580 Core(Unless you know otherwise). What were the temperatures you were getting at that high of a OC? I just replaced the default cooler with a Thermaltake Crystal Orb that i lapped and its running at 39C idle but i haven't overclocked it yet because i cant figure out this shader issue. Im getting some RAM/Chipset heatsinks to go with the new Cooler.

First I lapped it.
Then i removed the gpu plastic guard that came on mine.
Then I reseated the fan/heatsink to the board with Artic silver 5 thermal paste.
Then I installed extra ramsinks to the memory, that I had laying around.

I will take a picture.... hold on.

Ok Thanks. Quick question. What plastic guard are you talking about you removed? Do you mean the little square box shape thing that was around the core?

Do you have any questions?

The blue heatsinks were added by me ofcourse so I could OC the memory on it.

Yep thats the bracket i thought you were talking about. I didn't remove it when i put my new heatsink on and in a way it looked like it was holding the heatsink off the the core so i guess i will just remove the heatsink again and remove that little bracket. I used this cheap thermal paste called Spectra Cool that i had laying around. Should i consider buying some Artic Silver to use when i put the heatsink back on?

Yes, but only if you are gonna do the same for the CPU.

Well I don't have a problem with my CPU's temps. Its on the default cooler and it runs at 19C on a cool day and today it got up to 80F outside and it was still running at 25C. My temps on my Card dropped 9C from my default cooler(Passively Cooled) to my new one so im not too worried about it overheating at the moment. I might just stick with the Spectra Cool for now.

That CPU temp is way to low...... time to overclock it for extra performance. It will improve gaming and HD video accelleration if you do.

Hmmm. Since we are on the subject of CPU OCing I noticed something odd today. I was using PC Wizard 2008 to get some temperature readouts and my processor went from 2639.80mhz to 3.299.71mhz. I have not overclocked it tho. Its a HT processor so it only runs at full speed when loading something. The only thing i have done is load Performance Settings in my bios but i don't think that would make the Processor go from 3.0 to 3.3mhz. Do you have any idea why this would do that?

Your results are probably just a fluke in the sensor. Maybe your processor is actually 3.3Ghz. Use CPU-Z to be sure. ;)
Your motherboard only supports pentium 4 and Celeron. It does support mild OC'ing though.

Well i used CPU-Z and heres what i found out. For some reason my Bus Speed is 220mhz rather then 200mhz. When i first got the CPU it would only go to 3.0.mhz and the Bus Speed was 200mhz. I don't understand how out of the blue it would just jump to 220mhz.

Weird maybe its your board acting funny.... who knows. Atleast it isn't hurting your temps. Thats all that matters. :D

Yeah i mean im not going to gripe about getting an extra 300mhz from out of the blue. It was just something that struck me as an odd thing to see when you haven't overclocked it. As long as the temps are low then im fine with it.

It looks like it will be Monday or Tuesday before i get my Ram-Heatsinks (USPS slow shipping) so im gonna wait on OCing the Video Card until i get them installed and pull that little bracket off. I'll make sure tho that once i do OC it i'll post the results on here. Thanks again for all your help.
