Yup, starting to have overheating on my northbridge. Guys think this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118014) or a Thermalright HR-05 would fit with my Scythe Ninja?

Does anyone have a Thermalright HR-05 that they are not using and wouldnt mind selling it?

I've got the Noctua NC-U6. It's passive but, although it doesn't have fan support, that doesn't mean you can't add one to it. If only my P5K-SE supported NB temp monitoring, i could tell you the difference between the original and the new one.

Hmmmm, think it would fit HTC?

Dunno, but i think so:

http://www.noctua.at/inc/imageviewer.php?item=7&pnr=0&lng=en

It's quite tall, but slim. However, due to the tight space, i doubt you could stick a fan to it.

I wonder if I get one if I could fit a slim 120mm in between it and the scythe. Hmmmm ...

PM me with your locale and maybe some heatware or ebay feedback. I may just go ahead and buy it off you depending on condition.

Don't think so: the fin's height is only 66.1 mm.

have you tried to put a small fan on the N/B?

have you tried to reseat and reapply TIM on the N/B?

enzotech makes an all copper cooler that may work

I can look around for something but probably nothing that small to be worth it. I wonder .....

It has a few pics which should answer all your questions.

@htc
According to those pics that from what I can see it will be tight but will fit.

@intel
If I do go just the fan route, should I mount the fan on the top or the bottom side closes to the video card blowing the "fins"?

you do realize you will have to "cut" the pipe to remove the NB cooler?

Ketxx says he chopped his and put a fan type cooler on his. Personally it never really overheated on me, but I have really good case ventilation.

It can be rotated up to 120º in order to evade compatibility issues.

@sneeky
Or replace all thats included with the pipes. Which I am willing to do.
would you consider 45-48C idle too hot?

@htc
thanks again

You're welcome.

Here's a pic of the "manual":

Btw: won't replacing all that's included with the pipes, or even some of it, void the warranty? I ask because i'm thinking of getting a rampage formula, when i have the cash for it later on, and it has lots of pipes too.

PWM is the temp of the 4 phase chips that power the CPU IIRC.

@HTC...it will most certainly void the warranty!

@htc
Bought it from sneekypeet. Warranty is a non-issue at this point.

@peet
So what would it mean then, I can touch the northbridge it feels very warm to me. Like little warmer than a hot cup of coffee so to speak.

EDIT: Warranty? You mean its still good on it? Its transferrable?

I see, hehe. And if it were a new one, would warranty be voided?

EDIT

Nvm.

I agree the NB is hot on that mobo, but if anything it would be a system temp or mobo temp.

Warranty...i never registered it...take that how you want to!!!!!!

well the TIM could have degraded and its getting hotter than I had it here!!!!
May want to start off just replacing the TIM as suggested and see where that leaves ya!

Warranty...i never registered it...take that how you want to!!!!!!

Once, i had an Asus motherboard and, when i bought a 56 external modem (yeah: that long ago ...), i found out it wasn't detected. After a while, i found out the problem: the COM 2 port was damaged which meant that i could either use the mouse or the modem, but not both.
I was lucky because i found this problem 1 week before the end of the warranty so i took it to the store i bought it from right away and it was fix @ no charge.
A few years back, i had a 9700 PowerColor video board and i had the distinct bad luck of it getting corrupt memory 1 month after the warranty was over ...
Back then, the warranty was of 1 year only.
Warranty has it's perks, i believe.

Gotcha, I got some ceramique and cheap Dynex silver (BestBuy), which should I use?

@htc

Really not worried about any warranty, if I need a new board I will just buy a new one.

I think you have a good ol' dead-spot for air right where your NB is. Try a small fan right on it, or a nice big side case fan.:)

Ok, I had to remove on of my intakes to take that picture. I have a mounting box that covers over top of the first PCIe x16 slot. It houses a 120MM fan that pushes about 50CFM @ 1500RPM 26dba. Guys think I should remove the grill from it? Its just a thing wire circular grill nothing really going to obstruct airflow.

erocker
04-12-2008, 02:57 AM
Yes, get rid of it! I think a 40mm fan will work well on it. Mount it with rubber cement (a couple dabs on the corners).

Alright, You got it! Now to see if my local shop has some.

If you were looking for my opinion Jr, definitely try TIM first.

That temperature appears to be where the mofsets are. The great thing about heatpipe coolers is that if you get one part that's cooler than another, that's where the heat will go.
