Which of these two would be better? I'm guessing maybe the XIGMATEK. But I hear everybody likes the MX-2. Plan to use it on cpu (duh) and gpu.

well that's good, atleast i see a 5-10 drop i'll be happy. I would like to see 15-20 drop on my cards too. hopefully! i would be happy with atleast 10c drop

Yea the cool thing about it is if you get some on the pcb its non-conductive so it wont fry anything like Arctic Silver would.

MX-2 will be cool enough, we all know it...Good luck with your build, and give us some feedback when you are done....:toast:

maybe you could also change that zalman9500 to a 9700 (about 5 C temp drop) or even a ZEROTHERM NV120 NIRVANA PREMIUM 1 CPU COOLER (if you can find one) or Thermalright ULTRA 120 EXTREME COOLER (I like this one - especially for htpc)

well the size of the gpu is usually larger than the cpu so more than just a "grain of rice" size should be applied...

mine gpu is only about an half of inch wide, so maybe little less than.

sounds like the size of a cpu... so a drop of this size {:pimp:} should be enough....

I agree 100%.

I had recently RMA'd my 8800 Ultra and had to swap my Arctic Cooling Extreme cooler to the new card. Well the cooler came with MX-2 pre-applied and all I had to use in the mean time on my new card was AC5... 10c hotter. :wtf: :banghead:

I put in an overnight order for MX-2 the same day.

I got about 38C with my 3800+ on proper thermal compound now i get around 42-43C on copper grease with a much hotter chip.

I dropped 2*C in my water loop moving from AS5 to MX-2. The result was instantaneous, as Mx-2 doesnt need a setup time.

no sir the package states MX-2 is NON-CURING....check out AC's site...pretty sure it says the same there....Supposedly last up to 8 years B4 you need to reapply as well:)

Ya'll think these temps look good? There alot better than before. I forgot to run coretemp, still about half into the wprime test. The first part is a idle and the next results where during the test, so at load. :D

ok just did another test (stabilty) and it BSOD damn it
check temp log 2

i wouldnt go that far, that mad japanese diamond stuff is better and i would guess those metal pads you need melt onto the ish are too.

ocz freeze and tuniq tx-2 are also about the same as mx-2 and i would recomend all 3 to all but if you cant get those i would then say as5.

The freeze and tx-2 arent quite up there with mx-2 that I have seen. Now coolitlaboratories liquid TIM and that diamond stuff is alot better. But for AS series, the MX1/mx2 is top notch. I may take off my ICEQ3 cooler and clean off the tim and reapply the MX2 I have or put that VF900 on there I got from solotel.

MX-2 + Zalman VF900-Cu = my 3870 got from 50c idle to 30c!, 80c load to 50c
i love it! :respect:

Quick F.Y.I.. Tried Zalman's thermal compound (the kind in a bottle with a brush). My temps actually went up about 3 to 4 degrees or the pre-applied stuff on my Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro (guess that was Arctic Silver on it?).

I use Akasa AK-450 on my chips. I like it because PCWorld stock it so I can pop out and buy a tube without waiting and forking out for delivery.

Works great, I've tried others but not seen much difference, certainly nothing I can put down to anything more than variations in ambient and test conditions.

just FYI dow corning TC 1996 is almost identical to the stuff that comes with coolermaster coolers (the nasty grey stuff that is like glue)
