Hey I have an x1900 GT and I keep having these glitches in both crysis and oblivion, (I haven't tried any other games). I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers after completely removing the old ones (including registry entries).

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/1536/clipboard01bv7.jpg

The shape of the glitch is always different and sometimes it will happen in multiple areas simultaneously. It also sometimes will distort pieces of text while web browsing

I don't think I can moniter my GPU temperature but my case a 120mm fan and the air coming out is quite cool.

I beg for help

EDIT: Fixed picture

all right, a few things.. ATI Tool and Riva can moniter your GPU Temps.. But you might need to do is check to see if there is any dust that is built up on the GPU.
Then have you ever changed the thermal paste on it?? It might be the fact that you need a clean up on the card.
Also, whats your system specs?

My sentiments exactly. This could be multiple things, anywhere from overheating (doesn't matter about cold air coming out of the exhaust fan) from data corruption. But is most likely hardware related. So to better help us help you system specs would help. ;)

I forgot the info on my PSU they don't sell it from newegg anymore
same with motherboard, how can I get all this info?
all bought about christmas time of 2006, never had any problems until now

I haven't changed the thermal paste but I do have some arctic silver 5 that I bought about a year ago will that work?

i googled your problem a lot of people are associating it with PSU problems. Do you remember what type/wattage? if you open your case/look through the side panel window (if you have one) there should be a sticker boasting the information of your PSU.

The 1900 series was a hot running card to begin with. Take the card out and blow it out with a can of air. If you have any casefans laying around that you are too lazy to install, install them.

uh oh... Artifacts as severe as that generally are signs of a dead card; massive textural errors like those. If the card was overheating, the card would shut itself off (screen going black). Its something that can't be repaired, I'd think about moving on :(, I'd blame the memory giving up for something like that...

Think about moving on and purchasing something like a HD3850 as a replacement...

I had these (even worse) look here (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=40502).

The solution was to change the Cat. A.I. setting.

He has these issues outside of gaming.... so its irrelevant.

Then you're doomed!!!

Wild, im sorry to say, but everyone is right. if its glitching in more then your game, then its because of it dying... Its about time for ya to get a new system all together. If you say its been since Christmas of 06 that you got it, it served your well. Now on to bigger and better things... First off I'd say get a cheap card so you can still use it. Then think about gathering that money for a system.

if its AGP set it to AGP 4x [cuz otherwise rialto chip overheats]

if its pci express check in your bios PCI express downstream pipeline set to auto

alright, granted the text thing has only happened once or twice and it went away after i highlighted the text. Should I try 3Dmark or something?

Cold Storm
04-14-2008, 03:30 AM
You can try say 03 and see how its goes.. but i believe its going to hit ya. but try that stuff and see where it lands ya.. but i believe its crying..

wildmonkeys77
04-14-2008, 04:17 AM
ran 3dmark and everything looked fine until the very last scene where it went crazy, the bars were flickering from big to nothing. It looked a significantly worse than the screen I got but you get the general idea

The same thing has been happening with peoples' fingers in oblivion and other stuff in crysis

What about temps??

wildmonkeys77
04-14-2008, 04:27 AM
What's Cat A.I.?

And my video card doesn't measure temps

ShadowFold
04-14-2008, 04:31 AM
Yes it does. DL ATiTool you will see your temps. And Caty AI is in the Catalyst Command Center its an option.

Dr. Spankenstein
04-14-2008, 04:38 AM
So will Catalyst Control Center in the Overdrive tab.

Seen anything like this?

I had this problem with my old 7950GT, it died totally 2 weeks after I noticed it

wildmonkeys77
04-14-2008, 05:04 AM
I've done that completely in accordance with the Tweaking Companion guide to completely cleaning out old drivers.

Also I turned the AI to advanced, and then disabled it and I still am having the same problems.

I've also noticed that it happens increasingly the longer I play a game

as they have said...it is prolly dying. :( I was wrong...just the first 2 posts on google were of low wattage PSU's the others were all of the card dying/dead. And it wouldn't even be a problem with your PSU 550W is def enough, unless you got a defective Rosewill. But it is most likely a dying card.

HD 3870 or 8800GT if you can find one under 200$(512mb version. The 256mb sucks!)

For $200 you can get (if you want to stay ATi) HD3850, HD3870. With Nvidia you can get an 8800GT, or a 9600GT. All cards are within your price range.:) If your planning on sticking with a single card and not overclocking it, I would suggest the 8800GT.

ShadowFold
04-14-2008, 05:19 AM
I agree with erocker. If your staying single card 8800GT. If dual cards are in your future grab a 3850 :toast:

Please go to the 3D settings tab in Catalyst Control Center and amuse me by changing the setting to something different. (ie. if it is enabled and on Standard, move to Advanced or vice-versa. If it's disabled, enable it and try Standard or Advanced.

It costs you absolutely nothing short of a couple of minutes. Even if it doesn't work, you've gained a little experience as to how your video card can be adjusted.

I agree,

change the ai- to advanced setting I have the same graphic problem with crossfire,
even on desktop some thing flicker.

Funny thing is it happen on Ati Hotfix page that said they fixed the stuttering in crysis!

Wish I could have got a video capture of it ,
hey I laughed!

Confirmed-
Standard AI= graphical Coruption

Advanced= SWeet, even on the same map!

I might be confused,
I enabled it and tried it at standard: same problem
I enabled it and tried it at advanced: same problem

No that's all. Just wan't you to give it a shot before you dropped some coin on a card you potentially did not need.

Thanks for trying. It had cleared up a problem I had one time with games that were using Shader Model 3.0.

Heck, you COULD even try to update your DirectX drivers here (http://http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en). It's a simple .exe. Just download and click "RUN" when it asks.

Ya never know until you try...;)

Haha np you're the one help me remember?

Btw I finally got a can of air and did a complete system dust-out and I played oblivion for about 10ish minutes (all I had time for) and nothing happened. Hopefully tommorrow I'll get a chance to play it some more, I doubt that I've fixed it.

Dr. Spankenstein
04-15-2008, 04:18 AM
Stranger things have happened.

Check the label of that can. It may have some "angel's breath" in it, or something...

It can always be said that dust is an insulator and therefore an ally of heat. WE HATE HEAT!
