dammit!!!! im so sick of this ****!

i've been trying for 3 hours now to get CCC installed and it just wont work.

i have tried the following...

uninstalled the old version of CCC and drivers.
run drivercleaner
run CCleaner
done DiskCleanup
uninstalled visual C++ redist package
manually deleted all ati folders in c:/ drive
used ATI's uninstall utility

the old driver is STILL THERE and WONT LEAVE!!! :banghead::banghead::banghead:
when i run the install manager for the ATI drivers it says that the INF file could not be located.

what the hell am i doing wrong?????

It maybe a renegade registry command. You can run regedit and do a search for CCC or Catalyst and delete the folders or command lines found.

Which version r u trying to install?

so you dug in the system32 and prefetch folders?

thats where all my straglers hide.

Also im sure that you have tried....but I have never had old drivers block me out of installing CCC it just lets it run and says, you already are running this driver...overwrite?

not finding the INF seems like a bad download or a bogarted disc!

I could always pick and remove them from those two folder....just remove the ATI of course.

if you run into a question of ATI related or no google will answer it!

Might be a VIsta thing not letting you remove them....im on XP and I just checked and it will allow me to remove them.

My computer>>>C:>>>>Windows>>>>prefetch/system32. Allows me to do so on that path!

No offense, the easiest way to fix it is not to install it and try Ati Tray tools. :p

Is CCC needed for crossfire?

off topic but i always installed with one (card)....put the other in and installed again.....maybe you having both cards in is causing conflict?

Can you write down the file names and "search" for them in windows....then delete? Or possibly cut and paste driver to another folder then delete the folder?

That is the nature of TrustedInstaller service by default. Even as administrator it will lock you out of most files. Here, read this article (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/how-to-delete-a-system-file-in-windows-vista/) and you will see one of many reasons why I don't touch Vista. Hope it fixes your problem.
For multiple files try the following:

1)via folder properties go to your security tab.
2) in the bottom half you have the permissions listed for users, click the Advanced button
3) now go to the Owner tab, click Edit button (you will be asked for permision if UAC is at default)
4) change owner to your account and be sure to check the 'Replace owner on subcontainers and objects' and click Apply button. this results in all files including system files being switched to your account as owner!
5)now in the 'Advanced Security Settings for (your folder)' you need to edit the permissions: select your account (the one you just used to take ownership) and click Edit button.
6) you now see the Permissions tab and you need to again select your user account. (ensure that the permission is Full Control) check the lower 'Replace all existing inheritable permissions…' box and click Apply.
You are done! now you can close all the property stuff and just delete your folder. it may still ask for permission, but you now have the needed permissions to delete all contents of the folder.

dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it wont install even with a single card now. it says the driver inf could not be located.

ccc will install but the driver will not.

i try and manually install the driver and when i reboot windows it boots fine but the loading screen never goes away although you can hear the welcome chime and my email notifier.

i had to use the install dvd to do system restore. safe mode wont even boot anymore.

what's going on here?

I'm sorry I have no help for you at the moment, I'm going through the same crap! Well, CCC installs for me, it's just that 8.3's seem to be as good as running no drivers at all! Damn this M3A32-MVP! I'm about to do a reinstall of Vista again....:shadedshu

fitseries3

take all the ram out but one stick and see if it helps this situation?

ColdStorm and I both went through a wierd issue on our DFI's with 4 stix in play! Both of us on Crucials as well!

i only have 2 in and it's still doing the same crap.

sorry for my shitty tone of voice but you gotta think.. im playing with well over $3k in parts and its not working like its supposed to.

thanks to all for your help... please continue and i can promise you a 21k point 26mark06 run and possible 22-23k shortly after.

fitseries3
04-15-2008, 09:19 PM
yeah.... confirmed...

either card will work fine when alone in either slot but not together. the machine WILL NOT boot into windows with both cards in.

i have tried resetting the bios.

i also tried upping the NB and SB voltages at stock speeds.

I had this issue the first time I installed CCC with my crossfire setup, I could not get it to work properly until I reinstalled windows. I will say I resort to that sometimes to soon, but I really didnt want to that time. I tried Drivercleaner multiple times, searched the HD for anything ATI related, wiped it all out, cleared the registry, I even ran system restore, and it would not work. So I wiped the HD and started fresh, followed DR.'s instructions on his xfire (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=51219) thread, and it works fine. I follow the same path now and I seem to have no problems...

out of curiosity - what hardware you working with

I told everyone those new Cats were cursed! Nobody wanted to listen...
Now how's this for weird, the only way I was able to undo this mess was to try and install 7.12 then uninstall.

Sorry to hear that these farkin' drivers got their hooks into your system. I hate them and STILL use the Crysis Hotfix drivers to avoid such a headache.

RE: your overclock. I know it's not like your switching from a dual to a quad, but did you bother to go into the Dev Mgr and uninstall the CPU cores from the last proc you had?

it's a 2 drive raid.

it has been taking longer and longer to boot up over the past month.

also... the intel raid controller takes like 30 seconds to recognize the drives now.

im gonna try a single drive later and see what happens.

can anyone recommend a single drive that's as fast at 2 150gig raptors in raid 0?

Pretty tall order!

A Seagate Savvio 15K (http://www.pcauthority.com.au/Review/76428,seagate-savvio-15k.aspx) will get you close. 97.5 MBs sustained, 195.8 MBs Burst, 5.6 response.

Problem is: it's a SAS Serially Attached SCSI drive. But look at the RAID 0 numbers: 188.6 sustained, 334.9 burst, 5.5 response.

$475 a piece...:(
