View Full Version : 7900 GS AGP Bios
Here is a technical one. I have a Gigabyte GF7600GS card, and it's bios is corrupt. Im looking for a suitable Bios for this card. I have searched high and low and cant find any. The Bios I'm looking for:
Version: 5.73.22.37.01
GV-N76G256D-RH F2
The ones available here:
Version: 5.73.22.51.00
GV-N76G256D-RH F20
I have flashed my Bios with these ones, and works, untill you try to boot into Windows, then it flickers all nice blocky col.ours and then switches off. So my guess is the F20 is not right for my card, as my card uses F2. If any one could PLEASE help me to locate the correct Bios, I will be forever be in your debt.
** Just a note: I have contacted my card's manufacturer about this, and after 2 and a half weeks wait, they replied that they could not help me at this point as they do not have any bios versions available for my card (Just wonder where did the existing one come from then??)

Dizz, get a BIOS editor for your card. Then load the F20 version... and see what is "wrong". I suspect it may ONLY be memory and clock timings. So if you clock the memory and core DOWN... resave the BIOS... flash it... it may be OK. There may be other features you need to disable also. (I dont know tha 7600 card).
**ALSO**
AS a first test, you should boot into SAFE mode... and see if the card is stable with VGA drivers. If so, clean all your drivers off the Win installation, and install lastest drivers from nvidia.

Thanks, I will give it a go tonight. I see that NiBiTor detects the timings on the card.

Dizz, is the "corrupted" GS still bootable? Can you post long enough to grab me a bios, I want to see if I can help get it back to working again.
EDIT: Just noticed you already flashed the card, do you have a backup of the original default?

I have that one @ home. I will bring it in tomorrow and give it to you. No it is not bootable at all. I managed to save it as rom to my hdd. When opening it, the 3D Core is set to something like 1200 where it should be 400. Luckily my card never fried. But at this moment, I'm Biosless.

Ouch! I have a copy of a vanilla default eVGA I can upload but its for PCIe. It's a p345h0 PCB so unsure if it may work or not.
EDIT: You will more than likely have to edit the clock speeds yourself and then try and pull a flash anyway. Have a PCI video card handy?

I tried lowering the timings etc. And when it tries to boot into XP, I get a screen that looks like TV snow, in colour! :D So that one didnt work. But I didnt try to disable anything. Don't know what all the settings are for. It boots fine into safe mode and dos. If I uninstall all my drivers it boots fine into normal XP as well. Just as soon as I start installing drivers, it blanks out.

I do remember having this issue with my PCIe version. Only thing that was done was to reseat the card, but this may not help.

No re-SEAT, as in take it out and put it back in. Silly.

Ok best I can do, that bios was so corrupt that I couldn't even edit/fix what was wrong. Before you try this, do you have an extra PCI video card handy?

Yes I've got an old 5900 AGP I'm currently using as a replacement.

Ok, but in theory thats not what I was asking. In case a bad flash occurs I want to make sure you can boot with video, while both PCI and AGP card is installed.

Oh a normal old PCi card. yes I do.

Sweet! Ok attached is a bios that MAY work, try it see if it helps. Can't do much more damage than what is already done.
EDIT: Its basically a vanilla 7600GS bios.

Try and set in bios? If it doesnt work, there is really not much more you can do unless you find the exact same bios for the card.

1./ Good news... the card works! (in safe mode or with standard VGA drivers)
2./ Bad news... installing nvidia drivers causes fail.
I think the problem is one of:
A. Faulty RAM on the board... cannot cope once hardware acceleration is turned on.
B. Incorrect GPU and RAM timings... you may need to dial back the GPU and GDDR timings even more. But not too low, or it doesnt refresh properly, and will give you the snow.
C. The BIOS you are looking for: Version: 5.73.22.37.01 GV-N76G256D-RH F2 (and u are using the F2 version) is NOT actually what the card needs.
Sorry, I cannot help further.

Ok a quick crash course on this please. I have 7 settings/ tRC-20, tRFC-25, tRAS-15, tRP-5, tRCDRD-5, tRCDWR-5, tRRD-3. What is what here? Correct me if I am wrong, thei higher the value the slower it is and the lower the value, the faster it is?

Sorry for not replying sooner, but yes that is correct.
Ok heres my sad story. I managed to get a copy of my Bios. G73. I flashed my card, restarted my pc, and everything looked promising. Installed the NVidia drivers and as soon as it tries to access the ram or GPU it bombs out. So my guess is the ram or the gpu is fried. (Anyone feel generous and want to sponsor me a gfx card?). But thanks for everyones efford to help me on this. If you guys want this Bios I found, let me know and I will upload it.

I know this may sound ridiculous, but try it out anyways. Take the card out of your machine and let it sit in like antistatic bag or something for about a day or 2. I don't know how it fixed mine but I had the same occurence and thats all I did it is now working beatifully in my 2nd rig as an HTPC card.

I will give it a try. Something I tried with an older card was putting it into a fridge....and is still working today...in my mom's pc "Weird". But the fridge thing didnt work for this one. I'll put it into a anti static bag and leave it for the weekend. See what happens.

I'v put the card into a anti-stat bag for the whole weekend, and pluged it in yesterday. It's a no go. It does boot up into Windows with the drivers installed, but it starts to make funny lines after about 5 min untill eventually you cant see a thing on the screen.
Original BIOS for GV-N76G256D-RH.
