I have my temps and I've been driving auto for about 10hrs or so in my mom's car. So I asked my dad if we could go drive his car in the parking lot. I did okay, only stalled it out a few times. He said he's trying to explain and stuff but it's really something you just have to learn yourself. I still deffenitely want to drive stick, it's just going to take awhile to learn.

My parents are nobs about driving, they keep saying let your driving instructor do it. But thats once a week. Everytime I ask them to take me out, they don't. :banghead: But when you do get your license, all you'll ever hear from them is, go get this, go get that lol. :p

remember its like riding a bike ppl can tell u but u need to learn......my stick experiance 1'st gear is the hardest ...push the clutch in give it a little gas then let the clutch out @ the same time u push the gas :)

I have drown nothing but stick, my moms toyota and I drove a tractor commonly at my summer job

The ATV I used to get around was stick too, but was a non-clutch transmission. Dont know that works.

Yeah it's not too bad, it's just my dad's throttle sucks. It kind of sticks and goes in small chunks instead of one clean motion. So when you press it down it likes to go from idle straight to four grand. I got the clutch thing down really, it's trying to find out how much gas to give it when I let it go. I'll get it though, I'll probably drive it again this weekend.

The clutch on my dads old mazda use to stick. Once when I went to pull the truck out, it stuck and I never happened to me before and I didn't know it was the clutch. Its was like that bull riding you see on tv, the truck jumped so much lol. Scared the shit out of me...

A Stick is so much more fun to drive. Its the only thing that makes my 91 Camry bareable, I just abuse the hell out of it and redline it all the time, its so much fun. Take it up to 6000 RPMs pop the clutch and lay on the gas. I never knew a 2 liter 4-cyln front wheel drive could burn out so long   !

front drive = better when you get in uhm "unstable" situations :)

When I learned to drive stick, I put myself through a 2-hour crash course. I had just bought myself a used '81 Accord 5-speed, which I didn't yet know how to drive (I was already fine in an automatic). I had my mom and older sister drop me off in a large parking lot about 5 miles from home, and leave me there with my 'new' Honda. I figured that if I ever wanted to get home, I would need to figure it out. Within a couple of hours, I was comfortable enough with it to drive back home.

haha.. yea.. stick rocks.

My clutch pedal had a screw it moves back and forth on, well the screw came out the other day and the pedal came off as I was shifting into third gear..

Needless to say, 3rd gear doesn't work anymore :/

My 5 speed is now a 4 speed. LOL

Its fun to drive.. always fun to learn new tricks :D Along with being able to enjoy the full acceleration a stick offers.
I drive a 94 escort GT.. DOHC 4 cylinder.. great car, but I eventually plan on shooting for a 500hp V6 and making it all wheel drive.. (replacing the 4 cyl mazda) Most likely a 911 turbo engine...

That sucker will be a beast when im done :twitch:

there just quite isnt anything like power-shifting at 6200rpm with a 325hp, 450ft/lb torque, street scorching, honda killing, gm slaughtering, ferd rustang 5.0;)

Stickshifts are the best thing that happened to cars... Automatics are for amateurs who only pretend they can drive.

And frontwheeldrive cars are nice for beginners too, real drivers run FERWD/M! :D

That's the definition of a technically good car, and that's only halfway good.

Honda's are ricers, per definition. VW's are boring, BMW's and Merc's are for wannalook richboys. But I'd still buy an M3 if I could afford it.

I'm gonna buy a Mini Cooper S sometime soon, they rock. (the old one, the really small one :D)

Then later, I'll rip out its engine, buy a Suzuki Hayabusa, rip out that things engine and swap. Voila 270HP Mini Cooper. Oh yeah, I would need to turbocharge it...

mine does.. it just doesnt shift properly all the time

a 4wd v6 escort properly equipped would smoke a rustang :toast:

Along with being a leet drifter with rwd. it will whip around like no other :pimp:

I've managed some leet 80mph powerslides with it already... and had it up past 120mph :nutkick:

I bet most rustangs havent even passed 100mph :D letalone done an 80mph powerslide

My perfect ride (I might actually make it someday, I know how to aswell, just the funds...):

'62 Mustang non-convirtible body (reinforced of course).
Dodge Charger '73 440 R/T Block bored out to 9ltr, dual stage compression (supercharger -> twin Turbo's, also kills the turbo lag). Brings ~750HP/1500+Nm (dunno what that is in pound-feet)
Nissan Skyline drivetrain (one of the few 4WD trains that can handle that kind of power).

But that's a bit of an expensive project I'm afraid... sucks.

What a lousy saying, I'd rather have a receipt than a friend when something went wrong.

I can do it myself, my first real project would be a mini cooper S (for the body, I hate that work) and put the busa engine in there. Later I could make that ultimate muscle car. Sadly though, I don't exactly have the funds for that stuff right now.

Sticks are easy to drive once you learn, but what is hard is remembering to drive them right. RPM matching on downshifts, slip shifting, heel and toe, etc....

sry but mustangs werent produced untill '64 1/2 :slap:

as much as i love FORD, one of my most favorite cars would definately have to be a 1970 chevelle ss454 ls6, corral blue with white racing stripes and bucket seats with console/shift (or with a muncie 4spd if i could find one).

that baby'll put 450hp MIN to the ground stock! :rockout: :respect:

Actually you are only partually correct...
The Mustang did go into production as a 64 1/2 model, but there was a 62 model that was a prototype. Here's a picture of it at this link.

The original is on display at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit.

I'd drive stick but I'm still trying to find a car that I won't mind screwing up. Oh and the worst places to have a manual car is either in NY or LA... my friend was driving to the beach yesterday and there was a LOT of traffic. Needless to say, he started to regret buying his '07 Subaru WRX

nah, traffics only a problem if you suck at driving it.

I've driven in a lot of stop and go traffic and never really had much problem.

Lol. I learned how to drive a stick in an 88 bronco 2. I was 11 at the time. It was our tow car and it was my job to make sure that it stayed started every day. With 3 acres, I made sure that it moved every day.

I learned how to drive a stick in a 99 BMW M-Roadster. By learning in that car, I can drive ANY stick. The friction point is about 1/8 of an inch, other then that its full engage or disengage. Learned how to slipshift it, double clutch, and properly start out in first gear :D.
