I'm getting a new video card (8600gts)... but I want to know if there is any way I can use my 8500gt with the new card? Maybe dedicate it to AA/AF functions? Physx?

Because I could only afford the GTS. I looked... 8800GT, 8800GTS, 8800GS, 9600GT... all out of range.

Well you could always try to vmod the 8500 and OC it to the hilt...find an old aluminum CPU cooler to attatch to it! Then if it goes well...do Solaris17's vmod to the 8600!

Man I just want to live in my own place so bad I wish I had a job and it wasn't illegal to leave home before the age of 18. I could just get a small appartment here, take my shit with me. Boom, I'm already furnished and everything. All I need is intarwebz and phone after that. Then I need a car, and then insurance. And insurance is mad expensive when you're young, espically if you're male. I can imagine that equalling $1000+ a month. :banghead:

What uses DX10/SM4? And even tho the 8600GTS is DX10 I would LOVE to see it play a DX10 game past 15fps :rolleyes:

Crysis uses DX10 on "very high" settings and plays great on my OC'ed 9800GX2 at 1600x1200. :slap:

Hat are you old enough to get a job yet? I started working shortly after I turned 14 (lied on my first application for my first job lol! Just wanted to get working early, make money!). Even at minimum wage at 20 hours a week or so, it wouldn't take long to save up for a better card like a 3850/70, 9600gt/8800xx, then you can pay a little more to order it from newegg since you seem to think your parents are way overprotective. It sounds like they are, but I am certain there are ways around...some creativity is in order, but I bet it's possible! Not to be offensive, but are you using "allowance" for this card?
I don't know what you do with your rig...benches, gaming, or just browse the web and visit TPU...depending on what you do, really the 8600 is lackluster for the first two...yes it can score in 3dm06 comparitively with a 1950 if that's your thing, and in gaming it's about 60-80% of a 1950 from my findings and comparisions. I dunno if you'll truly be happy with the purchase and would say to just wait until you can get a better solution...it just seems to be a pointless upgrade...unless you're planning to do some crazy vmods and clock that card sky high that is!

If only you could scrape up another $30 or so to be able to step up to a better card. I see the Egg has a 256mb 8800GT only $30 more then their cheapest 8600GTS, and a 8800GS is only $100 after rebate.
What about PayPal? Can you set yourself up a paypal account? If you can set up a paypal account I pledge at least $10 to you for your gpu cause. Sell some stuff on Ebay and add to the paypal and before you know it you are rockin' out with a new 9600GT or 8800GT.
So no BS here. Get yourself a paypal account and I will shoot you some funds. (Maybe some others might to.) :rockout:

You can use a 8500 GT to load CRYSIS at 320 x 240 at everything set to low. Or possibly 160 x 120 if CRYSIS allows you to. I doubt you'll get 0.0000001 fps.

If you must know, the 8500GT can play crysis perfectly fine (DX9). 1024x768 30fps medium.

You can either reuse your 8500GT by making it run more monitors haha, or sell it to a friend of yours?
a 8600GTS is a good card, ive used an OC'ed XFX one i think it be great for you over that cruddy 8500GT!
Have fun OCing it.... the XFX one i had was 740/2180 preclock i didnt bother to OC it more, it was pretty high up there
