Downloaded the demo of UT3... and after installing it wont run... I get the spalsh screen, and the CPU sits at like 50% chuigging away for about 5 minutes till i get bored and kill the process.
I fiogured it was a bug with the demo, so I just bought the game , took it home, installed it and same thing... Very Strange...
Any ideas?
Note the Task manager process: using loads of ram and 50% of the CPU though no game has started after 10mins!

yeah i deleted that straight after a few attempts of it not working... so not really sure.
Hardware specs are listed in my profile... any ideas?
Was working fine on this hardware when I had XP pro 32bit (the demo that is)

Hmm I have no issues running the Demo on x64 XP, Vista, x32 XP, Vista...installed months ago on my D: Partition on XP Pro...have changed OS's a handfull of times since then, haven't had to re-install the demo yet...and has worked great on every OS install, hardware change.
I do nothing to really tweak Vista aside from disabling UAC...but I wouldn't think that'd cause an issue with UT3...
You could install it on a x32 rig...and copy the install DIR to your Install DIR on your x64 rig...maybe there's something there?

installing it on my XP partition.. see if it runs there...
I seem to remember the demo worked, then stopped (think it was when I got the Asus Xonar card as its "Open AL" compatible... perhaps this is tripping it up

alright, it works fine when I boot up in XP, so it must be a 64bit problem im guessing.
I did what was reccomended and copied the install folder from XP over the one in Vista.
Still no joy...
Very strange... games works perfectly in XP, 1920X1200 everything maxxed out.
Though im not sure if its meant to be like that but all the voices were like the "chipmonks"... all high pitched... could be something to do with sample rate?
I tried with both Open AL on and off
wish i could get this going in vista!

Hmm..odd for sure...I just ran the demo again, I have no odd sound issues, graphics and res are spot on, in Vista x64 with my current setup (see sys specs).
I am wondering if there is something with the sound...if you have onboard, maybe uninstall your card and see if that works. Maybe go to Asus's forums and see if others with Xonar's are having issues with the game in Vista x86/x64...could be something there.
Sorry that didn't work for ya...that was just something to try considering I installed the demo in XP x32 and had no issues when using that install on x64/x32 XP/Vista...
I'm curious to the solution...

Dude, let me tell you I have so many probs with that game on Vista64. It locks up frequently when playing online, also the game locks up when trying to join games.
If you get it working tho, I suggest playing Vehicle CTF, my fav.
