Very Slow COD 4 install on vista SP1 , was much faster on xp

i installed Call of Duty 4 on vista SP 1 , and the install took like 20 mins . On xp it took like 5 mins . I have a quad core and 4 gb system .

There was no scan going on at that time .

Well how do they run? My main took forever to load Starcraft last time i loaded it, but my craptastic laptop pwned installation. I dont think it matters so long game play is fine. You aren't by chance scanning your computer while installing are u?

Hmm...are your DVD/CD and HDD set to proper transfer modes? There's a performance setting for HDD's, couldn't tell ya if it does any good or not, but I have it enabled anyway.

You should really fill out your sys specs (go to User CP, make sure to allow showing sys specs too). I didn't notice anywhere near a 20 minute install of CoD4 on my Vista x64 build (see my sys specs). Wonder if something else is up, any other game install seem to take longer?

had to reinstall mine today it took about 20 minute also, i have plenty of time tho so i dont really care, i jsut felt like sharing XD

superfetch is on, indexing is off . and i installed it from the iso file i had on HDD .

That's odd...didn't take that long for me, but hey it could have something to do with slower file x-fer's in Vista still...like I said, mine seems to be decent for what I have, my HDD is not a performance HDD by any means so in the end I can't complain!

Believe this or not, when I was on my opty, it literally took 2 seconds to FULLY install Hitman Blood Money. Then when I jumped the gun to a Q6600, it took way longer.

game loads and runs fine , as it was on xp . it was just the installation . and why that is surprising is that my HDD read speed increased by 5 Mb/s in vista than it was on xp . i checked it with HDTune .
