Get a 9600GT. Best price/performance ratio.

NZ prices are pretty crappy but with 400 you could easily get a 8800gt 512mb (pricespy says the cheapest online is $286)

True,thanks
So the 9600gt is better then 8800 gt 512mb?
Thats what i was thinking of getting, also is GTS better then GT?

no the 8800gt is normally slightly better than the 9600 in most benchmarks. yes if you get a gts with the g92 core it is better than the gt but the price difference isnt really worth it

The 8800GT is better than the 9600GT, but not worth the extra money spent.
You guys in NZ should be similar to Aussie prices, where:
8800GT 512mb = $230
9600GT 512mb = $175
For the slightly lower performance ratio, it isn't worth the extra $$ in getting an 8800GT.

thats true
9600 gt = 225 + shipping
8800gt = 286 + shiping

8800 gt = good price
8800 gts 512 = better card
Don`t go for gts 320 or 640 unless you get a REALLY good deal (i.e. cheaper than 8800 gt)

If you want an 8800 series card get the 8800GTS 512MB (G92).
It performs better than the 8800GT (which in turn performs better than the 9600) and it isn't very much more expensive than the GT.

/\ in nz though the pricing is alot different than in us/eu so the 9600gt would be the best choice

^ 400 NZD = 318 USD
Is the 8800 gts 320mb better then 8800gt 512mb?
i seen a few good prices on the 320 gts
Also, offtopic cause im :pimp: ,just out of intrest what do you guys from states pay for a liter of petrol?
1 liter = 0.26 gallons

No if you go for the GTS it needs to be a 512mb. I am running two XFX 9600GT Alpha Dogs and they are doing just fine. Right now 1 gallon $3.51 USD.

The 8800 gts 320mb is a G80 core and has a performance drop compared to the new G92 cores. which the 8800GT has.
I have a 640mb 8800GTS and got mine for about $300USD about 2 years ago. That was a great deal then. However now, if you can find one that is under the 8800GT the it would be a great deal, but that is the 640mb version not the 320mb. I would say skip the 8800GTS g92 (512mb version), get an 8800GT and if you have cooling problems (that is one of the things the GTS version does better is cooling) just buy the Arctic cooling VGA cooler. The 9600GT is also a good pickup if the price is significantly less then the 8800GT
*edit*
~$3.45 in Florida.

What resolution you game at?
8800 GS = 1280 x 800
8800 GT ,and 9600 GT = 1440 x 900
8800 GTS , 8800 GT ,and 9600 GT = 1680 x 1050
8800 GTX ,and 8800 Ultra = 1920 x 1200
9800 Series = 1920 x 1200 and Beyond
NOTE: 8800 GTX/Ultra is gonna suck if you have AA higher then 2.

Yeah but if they dont ship to NZ there is no point. :p (I'm not sure if they do or don't...do they?)
Reason is, although converting it to USD puts him in his price budget, he may still not be able to get that card locally for that price (I know for a fact in Aus a lot of our parts cost more after conversion)

@Dr Green Thumb.
If you want to get a GPU in NZ, go to playtech as they have been very good service.
I have had two RMA's with them and they didn't complain once.
I have bought my 8800GT from them.
Only thing is they supply only XFX.

Nothing wrong with XFX and their life time warranty.

certainly xfx are one of the very best graphics card manufacturers

Just a little FYI:
XFX do NOT offer a lifetime warranty to everyone. Im pretty sure NZ is in the same classification as Australia, and to us, their "lifetime" warranty is 2 years.
I found this out the hard way when RMAing a 7800GTX and they wanted a receipt. Lucky I still had it.
That being said, I returned the card and they sent me a brand new, unopened and fully packaged one back. Also, it only took about a month to get back :)

Horrible negatory.
Do you know that the 8800GTX is only 4% higher performance than the 8800GTS?
also, with everything at maximum, I game at 1920x1200, and get an average of 62 FPS on COD4.
The resolution has very little effect on my performance in comparison to AA, AF, shadows/light, and SM3.0
for instance, without shaders on NFS Carbon, I get better FPS at 1600x1200 than high shaders@800x600, and thats only SM2.0.

Until you get a mix; both high resolution AND all the eye candy :D
