Has anyone done some simple or complex heatsink modding?

I mostly just removed the LED's from the fan on my Zalman 9500. Zalman built the fan pretty well on the inside. They made it so even if the LED's go out (and I looked for this before I snipped snipped ), the fan will still work. Minimal parts on the inside which could break as well. Mostly just a few caps here and there. So, overall great fan, except the annoying LED's.

Heres my CPU fan without the LED's: (Looks alot better to me :P)

SPCR did a mod on the 9500, they ended up with a 120mm on it, well...its good cooling! :D:

So, has anyone else done simple or crazy CPU/GPU cooler mods? If so post them. :toast:

I removed the fan from a stock heatsink and used it for cooling purposes.

I also took the plastic guard off my Antazone ASC100 Heatsink a long time ago.

I used a old heatsink last night to try out my peltier TEC. The results were far less than impressive it got cold for about 3 minutes and as soon as the heatsink was hot the other side of the cooler started getting warm. I'm not sure what kinda massive heatsink you need for these things. The cpu heatsink and the large heatsink I pryed off a ancient motherboard didn't seem to do the trick.

I tried the 72w TEC out at 5v, 7v and 12v only got cold at 5v

i've cannibalized a couple p3 HSF's for GFX/mobo applications

theres just something about buying a couple HSF's for like $2 and busting out the dremmel or w/e and going to town that i just dont get out of buying premade ones

I have actually done the same.

I had a few old vcards around, and they had some old pinned heatsinks on them. My northbridge fan on my old mobo went out, so I just took the heatsink off of the vcard, and attached a fan to it. Had to clip a few things here and there on the hs, but its spinning and cooling perfectly now. :D
