View Full Version : Crashes on Halo Games

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Around x-mas time, I built the pc in my specs and had it up and running perfectly using xp x64. I had both Halo and Halo 2 working flawlessly. However, I tried moving up to Vista (as well as Vista SP1 on another occasion).

Needless to say, Vista hates my southbridge (probably the northbridge as well) and so I decided to come back to ol' reliable. I have the latest drivers installed and Crysis plays great (and 3dMark06 gives me around 9600). Unfortunately, Halo crashes 2 seconds after I load a map in single player, but I can ctrl+alt+delete out. In multiplayer, the game hard locks the system and I have to reboot. I just tried the demo as well and the same thing happens. Oddly enough, I get the error in the attatched picture when I open either Halo or Halo Trial.

As for Halo 2, I installed it using the good old method around x-mas time. No good, it hards locks the system while loading a level as well. For interest, I tried using the most up to date loaders (certainly makes things easier to install), but the same issue arises. Halo 2 doesn't give me any error pop-ups like Halo 1.

Any ideas? Remember, these games were all working fine on the same system around x-mas. Tried using both Catalyst 8.3 and 8.4 and same issues arise.

Seems that your computer is not detecting any ram for some reason... if you could get it to detect ram, then halo would not crash. i personally did not have this RAM problem, but did have it with the CPU, it says my old CPU could not run Halo. There is a work around. I will have to find it.

I appreciate it. I have a 2048mb fixed sized page file (even though I have 4GB RAM- some stupid programs require it regardless of amount of RAM in PC). Just tried underclocking CPU and RAM and still no good.

The game ran fine for me with quad core and 2GB. Got 4GB and it said i didnt have enough memory. Go figure.

Is there a way to make a program think I have 2GB RAM instead of 4GB? Bear in mind this game (and Halo 2) worked fine in XP x64 SP2 during Xmas with the same hardware.

Edit: I just pulled 2GB RAM from my PC and tried it again. I didn't get any errors this time, but the game still froze in the exact same place...
