View Full Version : Advice on location/mod/...? of a HDD

Okay, you can see from the attached pics what I've got so far. I have managed to get the top HDD to sit right in the bay over the front fan.
Now I want to do the same for the bottom HDD, but go under the fan. I have measured it and there is just enough room, but I don't know how to go about mounting the HDD there, and how to stop anything on the underneath of the HDD shorting on the bottom of the case.
Or maybe you have some completely different, better ideas?
Let me know.
Cheers!

if the bottom of the case is flat then nothing can short on the hd,
if you cant drill holes for it to mount on then try wedging it in with a couple rubber strips.

Thanks, I'll take it out and have a look, will have to be the rubber strips though cus I dont have any metal drill bits. :( .
Would it be best to do it metal side up (normal) or upside down? It would be easier to do the cabling upside down but I dont want to bugger anything up.

upside down wont matter, my ide drive is, but i found that keeping the sata one the right way up easier for cabling due to the connectors being on the side they are, hides the cables better,

I have sata connectors that are right angled at one end. I take it wouldnt matter if that end was plugged into the mobo then?
Do I need anything under the hdd if it is sitting on the bottom of the case? Or should it be okay?
Cheers.

should be fine, sata cables are same on both ends,
an as long as the case is flat an theres no metal parts poking up then the hd will be fine,
maybe a couple more rubber strips on bottom between it to stop vibration
youve done the hds similar to mine 1 up 1 down lol,
