How well do the 8800 (G92) GTS cards do when in a SLI config?

I'm debating between two 9600 GTs now or one 8800 GTS now and another later if the performance increase with SLI is decent.

Any live benchmarks showing the performance increase between a single and double GTS setup?

Well I'm pretty sure 2 8800 gts would be better than two 9600's since 2 88's are 1 9800 gx2 but as for benchies I can't find any yet but will keep looking.

2 x 9600 = lower performance then 2 x 8800 gt / 2 x 8800 gts = higher performance then 2 x 8800 gt. The GTS will work very good if you game at resolutions 1680 x 1050. Any higher then that will cause a dramatically slowdown in Frames Per Seconds.

2 gts 512 is almost equivalent performance wise to the gx2 from the tests I've seen. Cheaper too.;)

The increase is a shade over 50% from one I believe. 9600gt scales better for two I think (closer to 60%), but 2 8800gts will be far better.

no I mean, I know the 9600 GT's will be worse then two 8800 GTS, but I'm saying how much of a performance gain is there?

for instance... last I checked, the 9600 GTs did better then two 8800 GTs did... so the 8800 gt is out of the question even though a single card is better then a single 9600

I was talking about the stats farlex was saying

so only a 10% difference between performance gains? I guess the 8800 GTS is good for me then

Looks like I was a little off actually. Check this (http://en.expreview.com/2008/02/23/geforce-9600gt-review/?page=14)out. 80% on the 9600gt. Thats damn good. I'll see if I can find the 8800gts comparison, but I'm pretty sure it was a tad over 50%.

my lord, that is crazy

so I guess I was right about the 8800 gt vs 9600 gt SLI... crazy, guess nvidia did well with their drivers for the 9600 gt

http://www.evga.com/community/ModsRigs/ TOP sytems containing 8800GTS 512 SLI and 9600GT SLI are by same owner in same system. 8800GTS 512's 26088 in 3DMark06 and 22747 for the 9600GT's. That should show the difference. :)

I just put 2 x XFX 8800GTS’s (Alpha Dog’s) in my rig yesterday. I was running 7900GT’s. I just wanted an upgrade, it was about time.

My 3Dmark06 scores were around 5800 with the 7900’s and today I got 8600 with the 8800GTS’s. I know these aren’t the best scores out there by all means. I don’t know why I’m not getting higher; the only thing I can think of is I need a better MB/CPU. I’m working with the FX-57/Asus A8N32-SLI you would think they would be good enough…. :wtf:

Overall (despite the lower scores) this thing cooks along. I played BF2142 for awhile and I can tell the difference, everything is very clean, no problems. I want to get Crysis, haven’t played it yet.

Side notes:
- These cards are 9 inches long, which worked out perfect in my case, didn’t have to move my HD’s up. Some of the other cards are 10 ½ inches long, wow.
- They only need 1x PCI-E 6 pin connector.
- They don’t run as hot as the GTX’s, from what others have said.
- The box stated (XFX recommended) that you use at least a 600W PSU for 1 card and 700 for SLI. This “may” be a little overkill, not sure. Nonetheless I installed a new Ultra X3 1000W. :pimp:

run 3dmark with 1 of the cards and then run it with 2 pl0x

I'm trying to find performance increases from the sli configs not 8800 gts vs 9600 gt

and 8k... thats less then a single gts would give you, are you sure your running in SLI?

Does it play games well :) if it does then ignore 3dmark but it looks like the cpu is limited. Maybe upgrade the mobo and cpu but if you like the performance in games its not really that important.

if your talking about how well the cards scale i believe the 9600gt's scale better in sli than 8800gts's do but you will end up with better performance with the 8800gts's in sli...roughly the same thing as a 9800gx2 but the 9600gt's do scale better...most of the mid to low end cards do

but still if your looking for best performance the 8800gts's will be your option

What resolution are you playing at? 1680x1050 or lower just go with two 9600GT's, it would be plenty fast, plus the 9600's work very well together in SLi.
