im hoping to buy a 9800gtx within the nxt mnth or so.

question is do these cards require 2x 6 pin power connectors?

i ask because i was told off a friend that some 9800s? require 8 pin connectors?
if they do need 8 pin then im pretty much screwed as my psu only has 6 pin connectors.

sorry if this is a n00bish question, but obviously id like to check if he is correct before i spend,as id be rather gutted if i bought 1 and couldnt use it lol

thanks

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 9800gx2 requires a 6 pin and an 8 pin

Yes they (the 9800GTX) require two 6 pin connectors. No idea about the GX2.
Good luck, they are quiet and fast!

good luck with it!, theyre a very nice card, essentially a beefed up G92, but with some serious overclocking headroom, and higher memory bandwith.

i just finished doing an aftermarket cooler jobbie on mine so pics to follow very soon.

I am going to be getting the XFX Black Edition next week and replacing my two XFX 9600 GT Alpha Dogs. In the future I hope to own two of these but for now $400 is all I can afford. I can't wait to see how this cards plays.

well i got a pic that shows the new cooler (zalman VF-1000) and on the power end of the card i put heatsinks everywhere the stock heatsink touched, and attached an intel fan from the stock intel hsf :D
in the pic above the intel fan you can also see the 2 6-pin power connectors.

hey mussels, any idea how a G80GTX @ max OC vs G92GTX @ max OC pans out?

well the 8800GT in my sig, is beating my old 8800GTX in everything (1680x1050 res, or 1366x768). Nuff said there.

fair enough, so i guess the G92GTX does win outright. now to save my pennies for a 9900 to compare it to :D

i'll wait for the 9900 -we're looking at 256 and 384 bit memory now, and the 9900GTX is meant to use 512 bit. 1/2GB ram and a huge mem bus means lots of AA and high res :)

booyeah, all that and i really want to see 24-48 ROPS, somewhere inbetween would be gold.

maybe, maybe not, i mean, nvidia is really trying hard to keep the specs secret, so that may very well be an engineering sample or something iunno.... in any case, i want it :D
