Hi,
I recently purchased a Sapphire x800 gto 256 board. Everything with it is great, except that I get extremely high temperatures on it.
AtiTool reports the core temperatures as being between 55-65 on normal load and it goes over 100 on high load. Ambient temperature is around 42 on normal load. I have tried taking off the cooling unit and re-applying high quality thermal paste several times with different application methods, but nothing seems to get the temperature down.
I am not overclocking the card, and in fact have clocked it down just to see if it makes a difference (it doesn't). Is anyone else having these types of readings on their GTO? What tempteratures are too hight for the r480 gpu core?
Cheers slaesche

Holy Crap. 100? Is that celcius? I have an x800GTO2 w/ arctic silencer and it idles from 35-39C depending on ambient, and full load is 58-61C. I'm not sure about what these cards can handle but isnt 100C like 212F? That thing wont last long if those temps are right!

Are you talking about ambient or core temperatures?

Also, is your GTO2 a sapphire? What version of the arctic silencer do you use?

I have the sapphire x800gto......non GTO2, and temps are fine. Mine are:
idle: 34~36'C
load: 51~54'C
with stock hsf.......ambient temps are ~42'C load
When clocked at 510/1012....idle temps are almost the same ~36'C, load: ~71'C
Try atittool and look how the fan rpm controler and monitoring works? when reaching above 60'C the fan must be at about 64%.

Even when I set the fan to run at 100% all of the time, it still doesn't push the temperature down. I just installed OCZ thermal paste, and it's running at 62 degrees celsius. Is it possible that the heat reading is incorrect? I felt the back of the board (underside of the card) and it is not that hot...

Could be that the reading is not right. Possible that your ambient temp in the room etc is high? Is the fan working properly on the card?

Update: Today I installed the Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 5. Card maintains 32-36 degrees normal, ~50-60 load. The only thing I can liken the problems with is the terrible stock cooling unit that comes with this board.

I have also the same problem in my X800 GTO Ultimate
Samll garphic actions are raising the temp in 4-5 deg & at the end I reach above 92C
I also know that stable temp in Idale state is about 56C in my PC
I open a case to Sapphire but I think since it is a pasive cooling the avrage temps are arround 20-25 more
since silence was my main concern, I think I will buy a GlacialTech GT-F1 PCI 2 fans Cooler,
it is only 15DB, and it will probably help reduce the tempature.
Any way I am waiting for Sapphire answer for my problem.

oh man u have a pretty high temp. I have an powercolor x800 gto with stock cooling and it's oc to 520/550 mhz and its idle is about 36-39 celsius and load 55-60 and i'm getting a new cooler an artic cooler silencer is it any good ?
