View Full Version : Move settings from XP x64 to Vista? (And what Vista should I choose?)

I finally decided to make the leap to the dreaded Vista, but before I do it I was wondering if I could just use the File and Settings transfer wizard in XP x64 to move into Vista (either x86 Ultimate or x64 Ultimate). Also should I choose Vista x86 or x64? It'll be going onto the rig in my specs.

just stay in xp x64 and be happy -_- you dont need the dx10 spyware bloatware or instability of vista.

+1 its a shame to see a perfectly good pc get slowed down and bugged out by vista but if you must id go with 32bit purley because there seems to be less bugs and more support just like xp.

the only good reason for getting vista is dx10 and 3dmark vantage.. and you dont need that for an x1650pro

Vista x64 has just as much support as x86, Microsoft requires drivers to be released in both 32 and 64 bit form to get WHQL certified.
My rig is getting old fast and I had absolutely no driver issues with Vista x64. Something to beware of with x64 though; you can't run unsigned drivers without booting into windows with F8 - dont check driver signatures. A little nuisance but w/e.

Vista has matured greatly over the course of a year. I have had no issues with it. 64bit seems a bit faster than 32 as well.
As for the bloatware, use vlite. I cut it down to 1.5GB and its running quite smoothly. And there are no instability issues that I have come across. (unless its from bad overclocking).
I suggest Home Premium.

Yeah hp x64 ftw. I haven't ever had a single problem w/ instability. I have all the "bloat" on and it uses 1.5gb of ram, and it runs smooth as xp ever did.

drivers maybe catching up put general software isnt you normally have to wait longer to see 64bit versions.

True and false. Unless you are talking pure 64-bit versions? Either way, its rare for me to find a driver or software app that wont work in my Vista x64. Theres a lot more support for Vista x64 than there was/and maybe still is than XP x64.

I went with Server 2008 32 bit due to driver issues... XP x64 is great though and I recomendit to anyone and I fully plan on using it again in the future.
