In about a week I'm gonna get a 8800gt or gts (not sure yet) and my current psu - thermaltake tr2 430w probably wont cut it.
Should I be looking for something with multiple 12v rails , or one 12v rail?
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=013680&cid=PS.808 <- 4 12v with 18A on each
My budget is $80-90

The number of rails doesn't matter, IMO. What matters most is getting a good brand. That OCZ Stealthsteam is a great power supply.

Well after reading up the Tt TR2, you could try the 8800GT with it. Go with the OCZ but if you have a lil bit extra and can push your budget:

I actually agree with this, the 430w TT TR2 should handle your setup just fine. The setup in my specs, including the 4 hard drives and an 8800GTS, only pulls about 400w total from the wall under GPU and CPU load.

I was originally gonna get that one but it's out of stock at mississauga.
I might just end up trying my tr2 with the 8800gt and see how it goes

I can tell you that your Thermaltake TR2 430w will definately carry the card without breaking a sweat!!
If its just the card then according to Tomshardware review of the 8800gt card any 350w PSU can carry it but you problem will come from the other high end stuff you may have that suck wattage too.
Generally u cant go wrong with the Seasonic PSUs , they are one of the best (if not the best) on the market but they cost a fortune. The good news is that they make OEMs for Corsair for example VX 550w which is affordable and has only been praised since its release.
There is also a 750w version but i personally think thats an overkill for a normal good system. I use the corsair VX 550w with my specs and a 8800gt without any probs at all. I also ran fine on Antec Earthwatts 500w..
The Corsair VX 550w is SLI approved too. Highly recommended from my end .
There is a PSU guide sticky in the hardware section ;)

If it helps, I run an 8800gts (G92) off a 500w power supply, with a healthy OC on my Q6600, running it at 3.3Ghz right now but ran at 3.6Ghz until recently (wasn't getting maximum bandwidth from my memory, lowered my strap)

Its best to get a single rail psu since multi rails cause loss performance over time and gives less power to SLI and Crossfire. But I still think the OCZ Stealth X Stream is great.

All that matters is that you get a good PSU........
P.S. can you give me a screen shot of the 3dmark06 score....if you have one..don't blow your PC up getting the screen shot....ty

hm, i was just looking at your system specs and it says you have 8800GTX in SLI on an X38 board? i'm just curious as to how you got that to work.
thanks

That isn't entirely true. All power supplies, regardless of rails, loose performance over time. It is just a natural thing. Most people actually argue the opposite of what you said. The more power you put through a single rail, the more stress it is under, and the quicker it will degrade. Though by the time that performance loss is noticeable, you will have long switched to a new power supply(usually 3-5 years of operation).
You also gon't get less power to SLI and Crossfire with, especially since there are very few true multi-rail PSUs. Most are single transformer that just splits the power, so the power gets sent to where it is needed and it is all pulling from the same transformer.
