First off - Hi to everyone.
I was just browsing these forums after playing around with ATItool and got interested in what is actually in the card i'm using right now (I used to use 3dlabs cards back in the day..)
There seems to be a little confusion as to what the card actually is though...
Any diagnostic i throw at it tells me it's a 9800pro (Device ID - 4E48, 256bit memory etc.)
The thing is, it's using 8x 3.0ns Infineon memory chips and is only clocked at 324/290. (R350 core)
I know 9800's are getting a little long in the tooth now but if anyone could shed some light on why it's clocked so low, i'd be grateful :)

Are you sure its a pro...seems like a non-pro to me. Non-pro stock clocks are 325/290. How much memory does it have?

I'm pretty sure it's a pro as only the pro cards have a 256bit memory bus width.
The card is a 128mb variant.

Nope you can non-pros in 256bit.

Sooo... ATI have no real criteria as to what actually constitutes a 9800pro, then? o_O

Well the pro can come in a 256mb model, it has higher stock clocks and I believe the memory timings are different. Same goes for the XT.

just woundering i beleive i have the same card 9800 pr saphire 256 bus 128mg.....i was wondering im going to see if it has the xt core ...woo anyways i eas wondering if u can put arctic silver on it im sure u can as i see ppl on here taking pics of their cores all the time but just making sure :)
also my 9250 has 128 mb can someone explain to me how the 9800pro is better...other than agp..

Yes you can use Artic Silver. Just be careful not to put too much on, you don't want a bunch squeezing out the size onto the circuits of the chip.

do the hs come off easy i know like my 9250 I whant to experiment on that but....it uses thermal Epoxy...does the 9800?......if it does i dont know i might as well practice on the 9250 if they both do im practicing the arctic silverthing...A my cards need cooling anyway....B im getting a new processor and would NOT like to f that up.

I don't think the 9800's do where they have a full size cooler attached by a retention modual.

also does anyone know if the 9800 supports temp monitoring?
Yes 9800XT supports temp. monitoring and also 9800PRO with XT PCB (128 or 256MB models). But two things are obligatory for temperaturing monitoring on 9800's - LM63 chip (R360 core) and of course XT BIOS.:)

so i would need to flash to xt to get it to work even if i have the chip?

I have a 9800 pro AIW, any ideas if i can get it to monitor temp?
