Very..angry.. @ Amazon.com Sellers!

So i bought a HD 3850 256mb from a Amazon.com seller for $95 but had a 17 Gift card so it was a sweet $80, i also bought a 780G to replace my 630a.

Now i get both my Gigabyte 780G and the HD 3850 Today. Well i go about installing both turn it on and notice no problems initially it runs boot into vista fine, everything installs... but i notice a whiny noise emitting from the computer... i try to ignore but it continues for a good while actually hurting my ears.. so finally having enough i go down to try and located the source... it seems to be coming the from the HD 3850. I shut down the computer and attempt to take out the graphics card when i touch it the damn thing is so insanely hot! i mean if i left my hand there for a little longer i could of burnt it... i let it sit for a while then take it out it still hot at this point as well and set it down on an anit-static bag and check it after 2 mins it actually making the anti-static BAG WARM...

Needless to say im quite pissed, if i left it there it woulda blew im pretty sure of it, not ONLY that but now i cant get Windows Vista to boot anymore! using either a 2600PRO i have, or the Onboard IGP from the 780G it gets to the Loading screen then bam back to POST, ive put everything back to default im not even OCing! and it happens. So i think the HD 3850 might of taken my 6 hour old 780G with it.....

I could really use some help, is there anyway i can get vista to boot again!? im just about to put my 630a back in...

My 3870s make a high pitched squeal when under load. Kinda distracting. While you are in the BIOS, I don't think the cards can utilize PowerPlay so they are being fed full voltages PLUS if your VGA BIOS doesn't have a very aggressive fan profile it will let the card get to 90C. So that may explain a couple of your issues.

I would try to follow the instuctions provided be the MFG of the mobo for clearing the CMOS.

What brand? Look for the three squares with copper wire ringed inside them:

Called an Inductor coil. My DFI 790FX had a squeaky one. Not sure if it would have killed your board, though. Call Amazon and tell them. See what they can do.

Updated, got the 780G too boot into windows finally, put it to FAIL SAFE, but now there a HUGER problem it seems i was incorrect about the HD 3850 being the problem!!!! it seems the 780G is emitting the high pitch whining sound... its coming the GFX card slot! Im using the PRO and i can still hear it, some thing is seriously wrong!

check your voltages m8 I dont know why but its the first thing that comes to mind some boards seem to like overvolting things.

noob question but have you used the right power connector for the mobo and not the rail for the graphics card?

PSU is Antec 380w EarthWatt so i mean i should be fine? everything is connect.

I swapped mobos and everything on the 630a is just peachy.. i noticed however when taking the 780G out the NB was very HOT as well, and the whining only sounded when i was in Vista.

Voltages check out fine, everything is set to AUTO like i said i didnt even OC the board... or change Voltages. I think i got a DOA motherboard from Zipzoomfly/Gigabyte.. extremely annoyed still.. but any ideas why the Motherboard would heat up the GFX card so much? i when taking out the 2600PRO from the 780G it also felt very warm considering i only just turned it on for 5 mins.

Voltage is the only thing i can think of unless the heatsinks arent screwed down right?

my friends 790i evga board over volted stuff thats why i mentioned it.
It set his q6600 to 1.5v which is well over the top for standard clocks.

Yea, that may be i didnt get a chance to update the motherboard because of the High Pitch whining but im afraid regardless thats its DOA im going to get an RMA from Zippy and if the next 780G does it then yea its a serious problem.

also whats the normal temps for an HD 3850 256mb? so i can eliminate that it wasnt also a problem? right now im running stock speeds, fan @ %55, hitting 72C... hitting 80C + at OC speeds of 700Mhz core stock memory still...

Just a little curious on how you pin-pointed the whine from your graphics slot?

Believe me it was audible i had my Lian Le Rockefish case open and just put my ear.. and i heard it... it seems that BOTH the motherboard and GFX are at fault... or one infected the other jesus two bad things ON one day!

Anyway im back using the 2600PRO the HD 3850 was hitting 90C at Stock speeds %55 on the fan speed...

If your interested in a little trick,you can use a small piece of tubing(or hose)and put it to your ear,and probe with the other end.(kind of like a stethiscope effect).To actually pin-point the location.I just fail to understand how a slot can make a whine.

I really cant tell you, but if you where to hear it with me you could her a kind of small whine noise going "eeeennnnnnnn" over and over and it sounds like it is emitting near the GFX card slot, it may be however the IGP since the IGP and the Nbrigde Heatsink are right near the PCI-E slot, not to mention when i felt the NB cooler it was REALLY hot.

The 780G's are known to run extremely hot! I would RMA it or get a better NB cooler/fan. I got a fan for mine personally.

When you get a first run of a new board design..... sometimes you get a bunch of bad boards.

My 3850 256mb would idle at 43C if that helps.:)

yea that true, but a high pitch wine? and i only ran it for 5~10 mins! and it was insanely hot...

I got an RMA out to ZipZoomFly right now, and i contacted the Seller telling him he sold me a defective card.

Thanks DH, i was testing it using FURBENCHMARK and it was hitting up 90c! on stock speeds...
(hates himself because i should of bought yours :banghead: :banghead:)
