Hey, a buddy of mine here in Iraq spilled water on his laptop. He dried it off and let it sit for a day and now it won't power up. Any way to fix the problem? Or should it be sent in?

Remove all of the parts from it; Keyboard, RAM, HDD, Disk drives, battery, and as much casing as can be easily removed.
Let the parts and the laptop dry in a low humidity environment, but out of direct sunlight.
Let it dry for at least 24 hours, with the screen open.
Once it has "finished" drying, put all the parts back into it, and try booting it off of mains power.
If that doesn't work, send it back.

He tried drying it but not that way. I'll tell him to send it in.

Why does he have water next to a laptop? Hard lesson learned.
Also, make sure you don't enlist in the US military where you'd be in Iraq and risk your own life as well as your laptop's. :p

lost cause if you ask me - my sister spilt a glass of wine onto my parents laptop last year. completely knackered the keyboard (had to buy one and use a usb connection) and the battery. Let it dry in an airing cupboard for about a week but to no avail. Had fun that evening hitting it repeatedly with heavy objects :) (warranty had expired + it was a snail)
Perhaps he could use it as target practice? haha.

My wife accidentally knocked over a bottle of water onto my old ThinkPad laptop and it never booted again. I even replaced the keyboard (thinking it had shorted out) and it didn't help. Might have been the motherboard but I wasn't about to spend money on that.
Now? No liquids near any of my laptops ever.

Nothing like that would EVER happen to my lappy. I'm to cautious with it.
