well the whole problem started when i was installing microsoft office 2007 that was copied from my freind..... now when i was installing it the installation was stuck for ages....... then i tried to close all the programs but it wasnt closing.......then i forcefully restarted the computer then when it was booting up there was a black screen with the mouse showing...... but it wasnt booting up, the screen was stuck and vista wasnt loading properly. then i used my recovery disc to get it up and running but i didnt realise that it was actually installing XP and its application files into my computer....... then after that i tried to boot vista, it said that "windows/system32/winload.exe is corrupt or missing"

then i realise that i have stuffed up my vista........ so know im stuck with XP...... but i was going through the sites and found that windows vista x64 recovery disc could be downloaded from the nero site i think....... i havent yet downloaded it but i want to ask that is there any other way of fixing it or will the recovery disc work ???????

and if possible can anyone send me a winload.exe file to ( ADNANRRJ@hotmail.com ) [all capitals]

thanks !

You have successfully buggered your PC. What you should try and do, if you want to recover any files (if they're still there), is to try running a version of Linux that is made for "windows recovery" and copying any intact files off of your PC onto a USB or something.
Then, download the Vista x64 and reinstall it!

what is linux anyway ???

and what happens if i dont recover any files....... would the installation of vista64x from the internet work ??

Linux is another operating system, like Windows or Mac OS X.
It is quite versatile, and there are litteraly hundreds of types of it. Have a look on Wikipedia for more info.

If you don't recover any files, then when you install Vista onto your PC then it will be "empty", just like when you first got it.

You could try downloading EasyBCD from here

http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1

And follow these instructions to recover the Vista boot loader

If you have a Vista DVD we can try another way to rescue the boot loader,or you can download a Vista Recovery disc.

Let us know how it goes.

If you can boot to XP, you can back up your Vista files from XP. You don't need Linux anyway.

Yes thats a good idea before you start.:toast:

I think you just screwed up the boot loader when using the XP recovery so hopefully we can restore it and still boot to both OS's

When you are in XP you should be able to see the partition with Vista on it.

Just copy the files over to your XP partition and back them up on DVD or what ever.

satsta
05-03-2008, 11:31 AM
and how do i see where the partition is ??

satsta
05-03-2008, 11:31 AM
there is a HP_pavilion drive

and a HP_recovery drive

oily_17

When you open "My Computer" you should see both partitions,ie; C: and D: or what ever letter was assigned to each.

Are both OS's on the one hard drive, how is your drive partitioned?

OK I think I was reading this wrong,I thought you were dual booting both OS's.

Where you dual booting Vista and XP or did your dad just upgrade from XP to Vista with only the one OS on the computer.

satsta

If you have installed XP over the top of Vista when using the recovery disc,if you formatted which will have erased your folders.

Have you tried the EasyBCD tool?

I'm not at my Vista PC at the moment,it's at home.

satsta
05-03-2008, 12:00 PM

If the PC came with XP and you used the XP recovery disc it has probably restored the PC till the way that you first got it.

I think you will need the Vista DVD to reinstall it again I'm afraid.

satsta

well i got easy bcd to work but i dont know what to do with it so im going to look at the net for some answers and the second thing is that is there any way that i can keep my files that was installed on vista or would i have to install vista again and install those programs again ??

or could the vista cd restore that problem ??

easy solution? reformatt your HDD after backing up all your files, then run ONE os to make things less complicated.

Using copied (hacked) programs will lead into trouble.

Hey now, how do we know he didn't just damage his Office 07 disk, and just get the copy from his friend to replace it?

Error 404

Looks like he's totally screwed up his PC...
A fresh installation would probably be best, unless he has any really important files on his PC (which are probably erased anyway).

@ satsta: do you have a PC store nearby? Not something like Officeworks or whatever; you want a proper PC repair store. If you do, then go there and explain your situation, and ask if they can recover any files from your hard drive (you'd need to take your PC along with you for this).
If they can, then let them do their stuff. If they can't, then go find a Vista disk and install it onto your PC. You'll have lost all your files, but that's your own fault for not backing up!

He never stated that. He stated his friend's copy. I usually go with what people say to be honest.

well, im talking from my other computer........... the thing is i never liked getting pirated things..... im not interested in them..... but when my freind said he has one then the temptations came over me which lead me to total disaster !!!

i dont know, probably repairing my system using the vista disk might help if not then the final solution is formatting and installing again !
