View Full Version : Vista64/690G/Aero not working.
Building new rig for Mom. It's a AMD 690G board. Running the onboard video with 128mb allocated and it is running 64bit Vista Ultimate. I got it up and running and the Windows Aero is not working. I could have swore it worked on the same rig with 32bit Vista. I had 32 bit on it while we were waiting on our free Vista copies. With this 64bit I had to select the F8 and Disable Driver Signature Enforcement to get the Cat. 8.4 Motherboard/IGP Drivers to install as they weren't signed.
I want to stick with the igp as she won't need anything more powerful for what she does. I would like to have the full Vista experience with the Aero feature working for her though. She put the 32bit on her laptop so 32bit is not an option. Need to stick with the 64bit.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can get the Aero working?
Edit: To clarify, the transparency is working but the Windows Flip 3D is not working.

You probably have to run the Windows Experience Index. It has to score above a certain amount to have Aero turned on. On a default install, it runs the test before your video drivers are loaded, and probably scores ridiculously low. Even my 8800GT scored a 1 before I loaded the drivers. After drivers, it scores 5.9 (the highest available).
Go to the start menu, right click on Computer, and select properties. Int he window that pops up, click the Windows Experience Index link. In the next window that pops up, click on the Update my Score link. Let it run it's test, and I bet Aero will be unlocked.
Im a tard. I found the problem and fixed it. It was set as Vista Basic in the Appearance Settings, and not Aero. :slap:
Thanks.

It's like a game...you need to progress to unlock new features .. :D.
You put a good point there Wile E, but its never happened to me. On fresh installs I always have the default 1.0 but Aero is enabled.
That being said, I have never used 64-bit.

Come to think of it, 32bit never did it to me either. Only x64 has done it to me. I currently run Home Premium x64.
