I just got my 8800gts 512 and crysis only gets about 20fps on high with no AA at 1440x900

Is this due to my cpu bottlenecking or bad drivers? I'm using 169.21

That is certainly possible. I had bought my new GTS before my new processor and was experiencing the same issue, but once I got the cpu in, it cuts through high like butter (1440x900), and handles Very High better than I would have expected it. I don't imagine the drivers being the issue.

i would say that e6300 is holding your back. that and only 1 gig of memory...big bottleneck for crysis

Actually I have 3gb memory, in the system specs its listed separately. Would overclocking the e6300 help?

It certainly wouldn't have a negative effect! Even if you boost that thing up, I bet it will still bottleneck, but not quite as bad. With that much ram, I wouldn't think that was the issue, so I'd say OC away!

what are your full system specs and yes oc'ing would help

System specs:

Intel DG965WH mobo - can't overclock, locked bios :banghead:
Core 2 duo e6300 @1.86
3gb ddr2 667
8800gts 512
Thermaltake tr2 430w - would it be safe to oc anything with this psu?
xp sp2 32
stock cooling

I would say its the psu probably. 18 Amps is not enough. And no luck on the mobo either shitty bios locked. :(

Whoa so the psu can limit gpu performance?

Not only the psu limits the GPU, if it does not provide enough power to ALL components your whole system will begin to fail very soon.

Ok I'm gonna buy a new psu sometime next week and then start saving up for a new cpu (q6600?)

My current nvidia drivers are 169.21. are there any alternate drivers better in xp?

Here's the newest beta drivers, I would try them and save up for a better PSU and MoBo in the mean time.
