building a new pc need help choosing a power supply ---

i was thinking of

OCZ StealthXStream 500W Power Supply - Active PFC, 120mm Fan (OCZ500SXS)
or
Cooler Master Extreme Power 500W RP-500-PCAR Power Supply
or
Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX 12V 33A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active Pfc 120MM Fan (CMPSU-450VX)

not to high for budget...

No doubt the OCZ StealthXStream is king of 500 Watts. But if you can't keep up with the electric bills get teh corsair 450 Watts.

The corsair uses Active PFC which saves wattage consumption on system components when needed. Therefore less electric bills. While the OCZ has more power but....

THE OCZ USES ACTIVE PCF TOO

Yea but the corsair has 85% effiecency and the OCZ has 83% LOL

Since they are both the same price I would go with the OCZ but I'm too lazyto check the shipping.

ocz psus have problems at high load and can fry your rig if it gets way too high..

also, corsair is built by seasonic, whereas ocz is not, and corsair is more efficent and cheaper. its a no brainer.

the verdict: neither, get a corsair or pp&c

And also to add, no matter which power supply you purchase it will only draw what is needed up to its maximum rating. In other words, you need 10A of 20A on 12v, ~200W worth, it will only supply 10A of 20A 200W. ;)

Like CPU,MB,RAM,GFX. Each component will need a recomendation for requirements permitted in order to run properly.

What mobo (some use 4 pin and some use 8pin for the CPU power)
CPU?
Video Cards? (1-4) and what type (some need extra power, 6 and 8 pin)
Hdds? (I saw one guy with 12, lol

I built a SLI comp with a 235watt PS but I knew exactly what parts I needed to power before I began. Also some PSs ratings are baloney (over inflated) so thats why its important to get recommendations from friends and people that have done it before.

When I build a comp here is how I do it..
1st I decide what the comp is for (browse the Internet or gamer)
2nd I figure the parts needed for the build
3rd I look for a case that fits the build
4th I get the absolute best PS with the wires I will need to hook everything up without adapters
5th I shop for the best deals on the parts
6th I fix the case up while im waiting for the parts (cut out the perforated grills of the fans)
7th Build and go nutts.

Take my rig as an example saadz. I know for a fact I could run mine off an Earthwatts 380W model. I use the 500W so it will last longer and definitely know it will be enough.

really?!?! i have a powerstream520 that ive been overloading/overclocking since the day i got it (2003/2004) and not a hiccup out of this puppy ;) IIRC the oem for my PSU was "TopPower" or w/e. if i had to purchase another PSU id try my hardest to get another powerstream........

also, corsair is built by seasonic, whereas ocz is not, and corsair is more efficent and cheaper. its a no brainer. the verdict: neither, get a corsair or pp&c

pancho i think you need to remind yourself of the OEM's, both corsair and OCZ sell good/bad PSU's. the Vx line from corsair is not manufactured by seasonic IIRC and OCZ now owns pc p&c so......

and even then pc p&c are not PSU manufacturers they are supplied by OEM's ;)

okay ready

pp&c= seasonic built
ocz= built by a bunch of decentish oems
ocz & pp&c are one company now, but 2 different brands and series of products still.. and there is a huge quality difference between a pp&c and an ocz branded psu.

crosair= seasonic/cwt

they feature about the same quality as far as i know, but yeah, not all seasonic, but still a psu i would recommend.

so the person should get either a corsair or a pp&c psu, imo.

The Corsair 450 or 550 would be really nice for that comp (550 if you may upgrade or go nutts Ocing)

I ran a similar comp (with a 8800GT and X2 6400) on a good 400 watt PS.(the 9600 takes less power than a 8800GT)

panchoman

i would say 550 just in case if you want to expand, etc. and because the capacity of the psu degrades over time so its always good to have a little bit extra.

Just bought the cheapo.. OCZ 500SXS runs stable at 1.3 v, fluctuates lightly at 1.35 v and fluctuates wildly with at least 3 votages at or above 1.45 v. I havent been able to get my e8400 stable at 4250 and i think its due to the cheap psu.

Anyway, for 4 ghz its ok and pretty much quiet.
