Hi,
First let me start on a positive note by saying that I think ATITOOL is great. A godsend, in fact.

I have a Radeon X850PRO (PCI-Express) sitting inside a Biostar IDEQ330P SFF box. OS is windows XP x64 and CPU Athon 4800+ x2. Heat dissipation under load appears to be a problem and I'm pretty sure the ATI drivers aren't controlling the fan entirely correctly as the GPU temp rises. Anyhow that's somewhat by-the-by.

I have noticed that under this configuration ATITool (v0.24(c)) will control the GPU fan as directed under the 'Fan Control' dropdown BUT ONLY WHEN THE ATITOOL APPLICATION is NOT THE ACTIVE APPLICATION. Whenever the ATITool window has input focus, the fan control settings seem to have no effect (well, worse, actually, as the speed of the fan seems to drop off to some low value and the GPU temperature rapidly rises as a result).

Is this a bug? Seems like a bug to me.

Regards

My 850XT died (heat exhaustion I think) so I now have an 800GTO extreme (the passively-cooled one, no fans - woohoo!) It's a fair solution for me. Not great. But fair.

For some reason the fan on mine shuts off completely in the ATITool v0.24. And it never has done that before to me and I have used it since its beta. The fan control current speed shows 0% and my GPU temp is way high. I have to reinstall to get it all working properly again. Gee i would hate it to stop working while im in a game, It would fry the GPU for sure. I think ATITool is great but i'm getting a little nervous about these fan issues.

I just got this program "ATITools 0.25 Beta 10" to use it with my ATI Radeon X850 XT Platinum card. were is the fan control at? I see you guys are talking about yet I just dont see it. Plus I have googled and googled for ATITools tutorials yet I cant find anything can some one please point me in the rite direction. I also have the arctic cooling system on this card.

I use Powerstrip for my gaming to brighten up the sceen when playing. I took a screen shot of them both together. Just to show you what im doing as Im not really sure what I am doing.

I would love to read some tutorials on how to run this with out killing my card...or maybe someone can give me a few pointers.....

Thanks in advance.

Up until today I've had zero problems ... However just a couple of minutes ago the fan decided to stop working all together during an intense game of BF2. I probably wouldn't have noticed anything out of the ordinary, but after exiting the game I spotted what looked like an absurd number being reported back from the temperature monitor.

"That can't really be saying 111 Degrees" I thought as I chuckled to myself.

I shook my head in disbelief for a moment and thought it was a glitch.

Double clicking the insane temp I opened ATI tool to discover I was wrong. The actual temperature was 116. :twitch:

After a quick reboot the fan kicked in again and brought everything down to normal. (32 at the moment)

Yowza.

then there is this pretty much same thing as the ATITools has

I'm also having trouble with the fan control and my x800 gto. I have the fan control override set to "dynamic based on gpu temp" which works great when I apply it. However, when I put the computer to sleep and wake it up again, those settings get reverted to defaults and my fan speed gets kicked way up again. Any ideas? I'm using 0.24

I have an Asus X800 XT PE and am also having difficulty trying to get the dynamic fan speeds to stay the same after rebooting. The fan speeds work fine after applying new values, but for some reason they switch back to the default settings after shutdown. Im also using 0.24. Anyone have a suggestion for this?

I use ati tool .25 with my x850xt sapphire card.
I noticed after waking up from standby state,
the fan control is not working, it's using
the 5% factory setting instead. I disabled
standby and so far the fan control is OK.
With the factory default setting, running 3dmark05 will
crash the GPU.

have exactly the same problem with my Sapphire x700 and ATI-Tool v0.25beta11.
Have set "Fan Control" to "dynamic based on GPU temperature" and stored in a profile and set it to be loaded on startup (reboot). Works great as long as I don't switch the system into S3 or S4.

Problem: After wakeup from S3/S4, the fan of the VGA runs with 100% (factory setting). I must activate my profile manually for slow down the fan as in "fan control" defined. Have tested with "VPU recover" on and off in ATI's Catalyst Control Center (V5.13 for MCE), but takes no difference. Have also tried to store the fan settings into the default profile of ATI-Tool. No success.
My system: See my "System Specs".

i got a similiar problem like you all:
i enabled the fan control of ati tool and it works very fine.
but after a sometimes long, sometimes short time or after recovery from hibernation the fan is completely shutting down. this is dangerous especially when you are stressing the card and you dont hear it going off. :banghead:
when i am lucky the fan restarts after some seconds / minutes else i need to shut down the pc and wait at least 10min and then its working again.
this problem is not existing when i dont override the fan speeds.

i am using atitool0.24beta3 and a connect3d x800gto vivo (pcix) flashed with a powercolor x800xt bios

greetings

Concerning the lost fan control after a Standby, this workaround works good:

Download this:
VBS-Download.zip (http://www.thegreenbutton.com/community/download.aspx?id=1820&MessageID=136930)

Read source:
-> Thread <- (http://www.thegreenbutton.com/community/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=42&MessageID=136165)

My vbs modification to terminate ATITool.exe before standby:
For Each objProcess in GetObject("winmgmts:").ExecQuery("select * from Win32_Process where name='ATITool.exe'")

And for the restart after standby:
objShell.ShellExecute "ATITool.exe", "", "C:\Programme\ATITool", "open", 7

The downer::(
Can't use tray icon with GPU-Temp in task-tray anymore, because "ghost"-icons of all the terminated ATITool.exe's remains there. If I move the pointer over the "ghost's", they suddenly disappears.

Ok, so I've "disabled Tray icon" under ATITools-Settings-> Misc.

Hi,

there seems to be a fan control problem in v. 0.24 of ATi Tool.

- fan speed is locked to 50% when "Dynamic based on GPU temperature" is selected.
- fan speed is locked to 55% when "Try to keep GPU temperature at: 60C"
- fan speed is locked to 100% when "Fixed percentage:" is selected (whatever percentage is (0-100%), ATi Tool keep it 100%

I found out this, when I start to check why my Radeon 9800XT Pro (GE) start to hang with artifacts (Radeon is tested and there's no HW problems).

Whatever GPU and MEM temp's are, "dynamic" and "try to keep" do not allow Radeon to change cooler speed anymore, and this caused errors because GPU temp raise as high as 88C (!!) and MEM temp raise as high as 67C (!!). Even in normal desktop usage.

My case is running cool (+-0 ambient, usually 22-23C) and CPU (38-44C / 0-100% load), so there's no problem with case temps, if anyone of You wonder that ;)

When I unselect "Override fan speeds" from ATi Tool Fan Control, everything works fine and now my Radeon runs 52-58C on desktop usage, and MEM temps do not raise over 40C. Even when gaming (1600x1200 resolution, all eye candy on in games WoW and Quage 4 etc.) cople of hours, GPU and MEM temps do not go more than 66C (GPU) and 50C (MEM).

Nice tool, but it need little bit of fixing ;)

i have been having the same problem... the fan on my Sapphire x800gto AGP will just shut down and i have no idea why... i have been lucky and noticed it but i'm afraid one day i wont and i'll fry my card :(

I'm using the latest ATi 6.2 drivers w/ the latest atitool Beta. i only noticed it after i updated drivers so maybe i just need to uninstall and reinstall atitool.
