Hey Guys & Girls,

I have a problem that is killing me and would love if someone could please spare 5 mins to see if they can help me solve my problem.

I am running:

K8V SE Deluxe mobo
AMD 64 3200+
And my old ATI Radeon 9700 pro 128mb.

I noticed that my video performance was not as good as it was with my old machine, so i started investigating.

Long story short, worked out that the 9500 and 9700 pro were not compatible with the K8V SE Deluxe mobo.

The message in the mobo manual being:

"If installing the ATI 9500 or 9700 pro series VGA cards, use only the card version PN xxx-xxxxx-30 or later which mine is not.

So i call ASUS who were very helpful and the guy says "its a ATI issue, not a ASUS issue" but suggests flashing the bios of the video card which i have done using bios obtained from here http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/ with a later PN #.

I ran 3D mark before and after flashing and the performance of the card has almost halved from where it was.

To top this off i thought i had saved my original bios using ATI tool but i cannot locate this anywhere. (MY FAULT)

My question is, DOES ANYONE HAVE THEIR ORIGINAL ATI 9700 PRO 128MB BIOS AVAILABLE and if so can you please assist me in rectifying my problem. I know my chances are slim but i thought its worth a shot

If anyone can offer any solution to this problem, i will be eternally in your debt!

Thankyou all in advance!

Hi Sean,

Thankyou for your reply,

To answer you question, it halved the score of my benchmark with 3D Mark.

It seems i have been confused with what brand of card i bought, for some reason i thought it was a hercules but i only remember hercules because i kept the box of my previous card and not the plastic case the ATI 9700 pro comes in. I actually flashed the card with Hercules bios which i believe was my problem.

I have since re flashed the bios with the ATI bios supplied here and it seems to be better!

I would though on the other hand still like to solve my problem that got me here in the first place and that is to use the bios of a card that has a PN number of xxx-xxxxx-30 or later.

I am not 100% sure on what brand video card i have but my driver disk only says ATI, so i am assuming it is not a powercolor, Hercules all of which i know come with their brand name driver disks.

Sorry to sound stupid, i have only just got back into my pc after several years of saving for my house and now that i am constantly home i have decided to focus some attention back on it.

I have had the 9700 pro since the week it was released (yes i have the sickness of upgrading when not necesary) and am someone that buys newer technology without getting the most out of what i have.

I would definately say that i am not a overclocker and that i know nothing about overclocking at all. I have ATI tool in which i let find my limit but that just seemed to keep going right past the limit until it almost killed the card and crashed the machine :)

I have learned though that since you obviously know what your doing that you might be able to supply me with an already overclocked version of the bios saving me the hard work??

Is this possible and if so i would be happy if you can help me with that.

I know there is no benefit in you helping me, but i will say that i appreciate it and if you are into performance car magazines i can surely organise you a subscription to some of my companies titles.

Thanks again Sean for taking the time to help me, and to answer your actual question, "what did it do? underclock it? disable pipes?"

I dont know what the Hercules bios did but it did definately reduce the performance of the card. It just bothers me that my card is not compatible with my new motherboard !

Speak soon!

no he doesnt..

just try a different ati bios.. anything matching the PCB should work shouldnt it? :)

most use the reference PCB, so there shouldnt be much different..

wow big post.. lol

helping is it's own reward ;)

overclocking you will have to do yourself cause everycard has a different oc.. :(

what's real gay is that i have the card right infront of me but i'm at my grandmas house (i brought it in my shuttle pc) and my lan won't work on it.. (drivers won't install... wtf..)

i don't have the origional bios on ot i loaded it with a different newer bios ill link you hold on..

Edit: it seems they took it off the www.omegadrivers.net site  or i can't find it... well they used to have a bios update section there and that's where i got it... :-/

ill have to get the origional off of my main rig for you tomorrow when i get home :)
