I've been using a tweak program called TweakVI (http://www.totalidea.com/content/downloads.php) (This is the vista one instead of XP) and I clicked virtual desktop. After 5 seconds the whole screen turned black, 2 seconds after turned back on. But now half of my stuff is gone....... Luckily none of them were system files but unluckily most of them are my homework. So my main question is what are some good data recovery software I can use? Or is there another way?

System Restore is turned off.. So that means no restore points. I've already tried chkdsk.

Wow those sound great. I'll try some of those. But I really want a way to have my stuff back
Try Handy Recovery 4, it worked wonders for me after i did a quick format of my 2nd hard drive. Many free programs didn't work in that case, but you should try the free ones first cause Handy Recovery aint free. Good luck.

EDIT: It seems that it works on XP and earlier versions of Windows only, not Vista, since you have a XP/Vista dual boot i'm not sure how it will affect you.

It worked fine. It will take a lot of time to fully recover my data. THx anyways.
That it will, but it's well worth it. Glad you got this resolved.
