Hi guys,
I own a P5KC motherboard from ASUS. Everything worked fine untill my windows screwed up. I've reinstalled it and try to do some overclocking with AI SUITE to my Intel Conroe Core 2 Duo E6550@2,3 Ghz processor. and then a surprise..... the suite was only showing to me the 6 and 7 stepping for the processor and this happens as well in BIOS.
Could it be because I've updated the bios with the latest available version on the website?
Before updating the bios, I've tried to do the OCing and it worked. I've send the damn intel to 3010 Ghz. Now even if I move the FSB frequency from 333 to 350 it cracks and won't go in windows. No matter if I'm trying this with ASUS AI SUITE or from BIOS.
Can anyone please help me fix this???
A tone of thanks in advance!

has nothing to do with what BIOS you are on...but the fact that you have not disables C1E or EIST in bios....mor commonly known as Speed Stepping.
Its purpose , is at idle to lower the multiplyer to save energy when it isnt being used!
This thread will help explain it better if you want to know the specifics.....http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=61174

Then if I will disable thse options, will I be able to OC the processor? As I said, whatever I change on the FSB it cracks....Can't do overclocking at all.

I dont advise using Windows based overclocking at all...well maybe, but thats after a really good OC in BIOS first. Disabling those two things in BIOS will only do two things...
#1 set the multi to is max instead of running at 6
#2 keep a more constant CPU voltage running through the processor.
Will it help in the pursuit of a good OC?...yes
Will you be able to OC more in windows with it on...most likely, but no promisses!
Again, there are loads of ppl here who like to help. I still advise doing some reading up and learning to OC in BIOS tho!

Ok.
Do you mind telling me where would I find those options in BIOS and what are their names exaclty? As I've just looking for EIST and C1E and found nothing.
I'm a bit noobish :) I've forgot to mention that. Before updating the bios, the AI SUITE was showing at the stepping option values from 6 to .... n I can't remember exactly but I know for sure 11 was there.....

well usually what I do to learn a new mobo is to google the mobo's part #...Asus P5KC, in you case...followed by the word "reviews".
This will take you to the reviews of the mobo, which usually are in depth with photos of the bios screens as well. If that doesnt seem to help, you may need to wait around for someone with a P% that is a little more familiar with your specific BIOS setup!

Another thing you may want to check is that your date time is set right. This can make software not work right and happened after my bios flash.
That stuff your looking for might be under advanced-> cpu configuration/jumperfree configuration in the bios
I also agree overclocking from windows not great if windows goes down it can take your hardware with it.

Ok. Any ideas where I could get a good tutorial on how to do overclocking from BIOS ?

Any clues on how can I spot a Intel Quad Core Q6700 processor with G0 (whatever that is, I heard is good to have it)

the GO is its stepping , which for the Q6600 was SLACR IIRC...not to sure what the code is on the Q67's tho!

LOL...didn't see that....how many does he need?
Anyways here's a good review from Hexus.

Apparenntly all the Q6700's are GO stepping. The only real diff is the Multi goes to 10X vs 9X.
To get above 10X you would have to get a QX6700.
