Hmm, that is often determined by more than your cpu. Your motherboard, memory, psu and cooling all play a vital role. Please post your system specs, as it will help us to help you. By the way, I had a e6550 overclocked to 3.2ghz about a year ago.

First, you should fill out the system specs so we know what you are running. From the looks of that, I would say that you ram is being pushed too far, try dropping it down a notch and see what happens.

As long as you are overclocking, watch out for the dreaded FSB "hole" in some 680i boards.

What hole????

In some 680i boards, there is a hole where you may not be able to boot from ,I think, from around 1600 to 1700 depending on the board. I had a 680i and someone here told me about this "hole". I thought it was a wall, but as soon as I jumped the hole, I was stable again and able to overclock to 4Ghz.

This is what I used for mine...

Got it to 3.5Ghz realy easy, 500fsb x 7 @ 1.45V

First try to lower your multi to 6 and set fsb to 500, it should boot at 3Ghz without any Voltage adjustment.

Remember, check your Vid with core temp, mine was 1.35V (default)
