Hi everyone , I am employed as a manager in a firm. I have a problem that I had like to talk about. My system was working fine the other day, but while copying a file by nero….the system hanged and I had to restart it. But I got a disk boot failure error. Then , I tried to run a windows xp installation CD, but that is also showing some error message during installation and the installation fails.I did check the bios settings and the disk fails to show…and had it checked on another system also…but bios cannot detect the hard disk.I think the disk is damaged or something like that. The disk has important data from my company’s point of view…..that I need to recover.
Please let me know if there are any ways to get my data back from this disk!!!!

A lot of times, boot errors and so forth can be because of bad ram timings, or just went dead... but, as you say you checked it with another computer, meaning you installed the hdd in another computer.... The cables could be wrong, or the drive is corrupt... UBCD could help you out with their hdd stuff...

For some reason I get the feeling in this case the hard drive is fine and your data is ok. It realy souds like a software/settings issue or RAM issue. Can you give us some specs on the computer? (Like what kind, etc.)l

Maybe if he replaced the boot sector would help ?. Is the HDD actually running ?.

Not detected in bios = dead HDD.

Test it before you declare its dead. Load that hard drive up into another computer and see if you get the same error.

By any chance could the HDD cable of came disconnected partially, this would also cause the bios not to detect the hard drive.

If the hard drive is dead sometimes if your really lucky if you stick it in the freezer for a bit(15 mins)sometimes, not very often, but sometimes it will give you enough life left and let you copy the very important files off of it. (I have watched my dad pull this off once, and it is the only time I have ever seen it work)

Not detected in bios = dead HDD.

Well there's options even there. Maybe a lose circuit board ?.. I did find that with a 800MD WD drive once. Another idea is to hunt around for the same HDD and swap out the circuit board done that to before.

Problems you may have with swaping the circuit board is it MIGHT be soldered by 4 points were the motor is. And another issue is that revision of the drive. BUT hey important data is required. Only other option is to send it in to one of these data recovery company's.

If it not be detected and is connected correctly my thinking is that just the circuit board is dead.

I think that your disk is probably damaged …cannot guess any other reason for failure. There may be some problem in the controllers or can be another thing. The best way is to get a professional team that can recover data from damaged drives (http://www.diskemergency.com/) . They can be your best resort as they have tools and ways to get the things done.

All the best to you.
