Would it be safe to say that a pre-built PC that is less than 6 months old has a PCI-E slot instead of AGP?

Without any other information I'd say 95% chance it's PCI-E if it's coming from a big brand. If it was built by a local shop, and if it's very inexpensive I'd put the chance at 75% it's PCI-E. Guesstimated percentages of course.;)

If it is prebuilt is has a part number, it has a part number it probably has a webpage with the specs. Try googling it.

Ha thanks. I was pretty sure, I don't have any more information to give either and my buddy said he's not looking at the mobo right now so....

We're trying to get him a video card that will play CoD4 ok.

no, but if its LGA775, or socket 939, there is a good chance it is. [or is onboard and you dont get a port at all haw! why?

you prolly do, you should check befor buying anything tho.

there is another option... It may have neither a PCI-E or an AGP.

This question was answered in my first reply: He said he's not going to look at the mobo now.

Of course he's going to look before actually buying anything, I was just asking as a general question.

The real issue here is can the PSU on the OEM handle his card of choice....be sure to look there too prior to purchase!

Exactly, depending on the system, it may STILL be using PCI. I've seen that in a number of lower-end pre-built PCs.
