View Full Version : Confusing Vcore

During bootup, my BIOS has started to stop and warn me about high Vcore. It says the voltage is 3.36!. It is set at 1.3375 though.

I can boot up and operate with no troubles and have no temperature issues. Everest says Vcore is 3.36, CPU-Z Core Voltage 1.616, HWmonitor 3.36.

This only happened in the last couple of days, before then all the voltages agreed with each other. Any clues as to what is happening?

Things I have done in the last few days
1. Had a brief try at getting 400fsb with x8 multiplier, no voltage changes and I managed to post but couldnt get windows running so went back to current setup (333FSB, 3.33GHz CPu, 25% OC)
2. Removed a standard 120mm fan and replaced with a PWM 120mm fan for the CPU cooler
3. de dusted and probably bumped a few leads etc
4. played with fan settings in ASUS probe

Am I killing the CPU?

Update - I changed all my bios settings back to auto and 1066FSB. The Vcore is still 3.36V:(

Try resetting the BIOS/CMOS by using the jumper or removing the battery, just be sure that you unplug the power from the PSU.

ok unplugged power, reset CMOS - no change
uninstalled probe II - no change
unplugged and reset CMOS again - still the same.

That is odd, other than that I don't know what could be the problem, might want to contact ASUS about it.

1. What are your temps?
2. Update your BIOS!
3. If it was 3.36V, it would probably be fried by now.

my temps are fine core are 32-37C at idle, 48-55C at load.
been using 1404 BIOS for over a month now, it's the latest. Should I try and reflash it?
I'm using it to type this post so no frying at the moment. It seems to be a bad voltage reading, rather than a bad voltage setting.

sounds like a BIOS misread or even hardware failure. Contact your closest Asus rep as soon as possible.

Update: Asus have been quick to respond but its not fixed yet. Ive sent a full system description to ASUS who are going to confirm if they want me to reflash the BIOS or not. They seem to think thats the problem. I should hear back soon I hope.

meh not looking good. Did all they asked, BIOS reflash and all - no good. They wanted me to try another PSU but I dont have a spare PSU so I'll have to send the mobo back to the retailer.

Try reseating your cpu. I know may seem like a longshot.

Yea, do you have another LGA775 cpu to test in the mobo?...To see if the mobo does it to all cpu's.
