Yeah, just a few. BB usually does this a few times right before the new cards come out - then it takes them a month to get the new ones in stock

Is it any better than my favorite brand HIS?

I have both of them. The coolers perform virtually the same. As for the OC, the HIS highest OC was at 916/1393 while the VisionTek was at 912/1388 so that's statistically the same as well - based on a .05 differential :D

HIS one comes with the Black Box though... Not to mention you won't have to support BB going that route either. All the stuff they'll rip you of on is not absolved by a sweet deal once a month, imo.

That drive is very good I might add as I purchased it a shade over 2 weeks ago and it runs excellently. Now I finally have all of the formats available to play on my pc (hd dvd, blu-ray, and dvd). I still like the 'look' of hd dvd better because there is just something about it that gets me going, but blu-ray is damn pretty as well. I picked it up from an Office Max nearby for more but it was worth it and about $15 cheaper than newegg with shipping (overnight...sry I'm weird when it comes to shipping).
I'm REALLY thinking about picking up a second 3870 this week from bestbuy as I was eyeing it when they had it at $179 which is $5 cheaper than online at newegg. Strange...bestbuy is known for overcharging extremely and this card keeps fluctuating in price (started at $249, then 179, then 249, then 199, back to 179, and now 129).
I think I just might go ahead and do this as the only other thing I'll need is a proper sound card (still using onboard though it's very good).

cda, I worked at Best Buy for over a year. Only thing worth buying is TVs. I have 7-8 friends who still work at the one I worked at. I get everything at employee price and 9 times out of 10 etailers are cheaper than BB discount. I now work at at&t and I am working on getting them all jobs with me. Pays MUCH higher ($65k a year vs $25k at BB)

they may be cheaper online 9 out of 10 times, but you guys keep bashing their "over priced" prices. like i said, get over it. there a business.
are you going to complaign about the guys changing your oiljust because they charge you 2 times as much for the oil and 2 x the amount for a timing belt? i bet you want to order that online too?

For me all the HD 3870's for $130 were sold out :( They did however have an awesome price on a BFG 8600GTS for $280
Indeed BestBuy is a business I don't hate them for that, I don't hate them at all but I'm careful what I buy from them as their prices are far higher than what I get online (including overnight shipping). For them it's extremely smart and I still shop there as like Walmart they're one of the only things around retail wise to get certain things.
To me it just sucks because you can't go into a computer store anymore and get parts because of the online thing being $1 cheaper...I was and still am a fan of going into the local store and supporting it cuz one day you'll need them. Once they're gone a big business moves in (BestBuy) and can charge whatever they want.
It's just sad to me to watch people walk in and pay some of the prices they charge for instance seeing someone buy a HD3450 card for double the price! They're a good store but some of the parts they just charge far more than what's 'ethical' in my book. Profit and price gouging are two very different things.
Meh oh well, I still shop there and will continue to do so especially when they have deals like this. Though I'll be buying my new monitor (Samsung 1080p 32") as it's $300 cheaper at the egg even with BestBuy online. I do miss having CompUSA around as well, it was nice to have somewhere to guy and buy actual hardware besides just a few video cards and harddrives.
K
Oh yea I do all my own work too so I have no idea how much an oil change would cost haha :D

there is a difference between making a profit and charging up to double+ for an item.
and no i wouldn't complain about the price of an oil change and new timing belt as i do all my own mechanical work.
oil: $2
belt: find one for free

How did you OC the cards? Rivatuner? You used stock HSF? That's some really high OCs for stock HSF. Thanks.
My card is also overclocked very high for a stock card. In the 3800 series thread (or was it 3dmark06 thread) I've posted my highest clock screenshot of 931Mhz core clock and 1404Mhz memory on the stock HSF and no hardware mods. All of my work was done through software and no bios flashes either.
I'm using 905Mhz core and 1305Mhz memory as my day in day out game setup just to lessen any stress on the card. When I first did it I used CCC and RivaTuner in combination, but now I use ATi Tray Tools exclusively.

Rivatuner with the stock cooling @ 100%. Those are instanely high clocks for those cards. They're not stable for gaming at all & I only did it to run a few benchmarks.

I'm really lucky over here I guess. I have a TD about 6 mi from me. But its a little outlet. The larger TD & MC are near me as well but they are 20 to 30 mi aways. When I need something that the smaller TD doesn't have I usually put it off until I have some huge ridiculous list of junk. Then I trek off to TD & MC with an extra red container of gas :D
