hi all,
I am running in crossfire with a connect3d Hd 3870 and an asus HD3870 (with the big fan.)
In the CCC, the connect3d is shown as an ATI Hd 3870 (normal it's a BBA), the asus is shown as a 3800 serie.
Is it possible to use the ati stock driver, then to install the ASUS driver (through the device manager)?

My Sapphire is seen as a 3800 series.
My old Powercolor 1950XT was seen as a 1950 series.
Does it matter that much about the name? It still performs perfectly does it not?

What's the problem? If your cards work fine there is no reason to worry! Install the latest ATI drivers, don't get them from ASUS!

That's what I don't know! I am wondering if the ATI driver enables all the features of my ASUS??
I noticed that when I use the ASUS driver I make about 200 pts more at 3Dmark06.
Unfortunatelly, when I use the asus driver, my connect3d is seen as a 3800 serie ... endless loop!

It's a name, nothing more.
And 200pts in 3DMark06 means nothing to real world performance. It's just a slight driver tweak/cheat to get a few more points.

OK! I will stop bumping my head than!
It troubled me because the 3850 is also a 3800 serie!

They are 3800 series :P
And to be honest the differences between them are so small it doesn't matter.

Try manually installing it through device manager, the file would be in the ati folder (which ever version your using). Make sure to uninstall all the drivers first, I had the exact problem with my x1950pro being shown as just the series but after I did that it showed it as x1950pro.

No, it doesn't work. The ASUS EAH3870 is not part of the ATI inf file.
ATI claims ASUS never sent them a card for trial. So they donc support them.

I had the same issue with my Sapphire 3870 being seen as a HD3800 series but my Gecube was seen as HD 3870. Found a updated GPU bios for the Sapphire, flashed it, and now both are 3870's.
