i just got a hdmi - hdmi cable to connect my 1080p (full 1920x1080 res) tv via the ati dvi - hdmi adapter to my pc but i can't get any picture.

i checked CCC and the tv is there under DTV (HDMI) 3 and lists the max res at 1920x1080 and the max refresh at 120hz. i'm pretty sure the refresh is way off?

i read that you need to make the tv an extended display but i can't see any option to make it one and at the moment it keeps defaulting to clone mode.

also there are no options to set my tv's res or refresh rate, only the hdtv options and they make my monitor go scrambled :wtf:

any help?

edit: im using cat 8.5

Yeah, you're on the right track. Switch refresh rate to 60hz and you should be good.

If changing the refresh rate farks your monitor you must have the displays reversed.

Keep at it.

+1 on what Dr. Spankenstein says. I have HDMI going from my Video card to my Monitor and it will only run at 1650x1080p if its at 60hz.. if not, I have to restart it and it would go back to 60hz.
But on right track

theres no option to change the res for the tv, only the monitor and thats set to 60hz already.

i just tried again and now i can get my tv enabled in the displays manager but it still wont come on :(

had a mess about with "force" settings and there are 2 1080p settings, 1 1080p24 and the other is 1080p60.

i added the 1080p24 to the force options and when i select it my tv res is set to 1920x1080 but the refresh is 58mhz or something and still no picture :(

ok i finally got a picture on it but thats at 1920x1080 and refresh rete can be either 25i or 30i and with these settings the tv tells me its 1080i and not 1080p.

could it be down to the cable im using? not sure if i need one of these newer 1.3 hdmi cables or not?

sorted guys, it was the wrong 1080p setting. forced 1080p60 (NTSC) and its working now at 1920x1080 @ 60hz just fine.

didnt think of using that setting as im in the uk and we have PAL but this is my first hdtv so its all pretty new :D

edit: just 1 last question, i have some 1080p video clips and the file properties say they are 1920x1080 but when i open them with VLC they only half fill the tv, i made sure they are playing at 1:1 and i checked in media stream info and they are 1920x1080 in that too but it dont fill my screen :/

also my desktop's edges are just slightly off screen, is there any way to fix it?

you should be able to resize the screen by just changing the Desktop Properties. Or, it could be the sizing on the TV itself.

Edit: and the video problem should be fixed by the media program itself.. what Program are you using?

cant see anything that allows me to change size other than the main hd resolution setting, im using VLC player for my vids.

CCC lets you create a "custom" resolution. When you select that option there will be some arrows on the screen that let you resize horiz and vert. IIRC, there is also one that will shrink or expand them in tandem (so you perportions don't get out of whack.)

ok i had it all working but i just reinstalled vista and now when i change the tv back to av from hdmi input it makes my monitor reset back to 1024x768 (1440x900 native) and my tv refresh rate to 58 instead of 60hz and wont work till i change them back.

it never used to do this when i had it working before and i could change the tv without it affecting anything.

cat 8.6 now instead of 8.5 so could it be those?

I believe that its because of 8.6... Or did you go straight to 8.6 with the fresh install??? Might be that the drivers from 8.5 are still there some where... How did you do clean the drivers out?

are you cloning or using a main for the TV? If you clone it's going to be the same resolution as the monitor. If you use as main, you can.

There is an overscan/underscan setting somewhere in CCC (I had the same issue with a 2900), worked like a charm. As for rest, I don't know.

fresh install of vista so just the 8.6's ever installed.

tv is extended and set to 1080p60 (1920x1080 @ 60hz) and monitor set to primary @ 1440x900 @ 60hz.

settings are the same as i had before.
