Well, I've been working on songs on my computer for over a year, and I've completed my second album... Well, it's not really complete but I've postponed work on it until I can track down a replacement for Sony ACID that I like, and that's proved difficult, so this is more of a demo release.
I am interested in your honest thoughts and ask that you listen to it with an open mind. If it sucks, say just that with no candy coating, and if certain songs stand out, please say which ones do, and why if you can. =P

All the tracks are arranged and mastered, and I even made some album art. Here's the link to the torrent.

http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4226110/Different_-_Into_the_Void_-_2008

If you are warry of downloading a torrent with out knowing what the stuff will sound like, you can hear a few songs on my myspace, http://www.myspace.com/differentthantherest and if you got a myspace account, you can download them for free as well.

Thanks in advance if anyone is brave. :p

Maybe once I am done making more tracks and I can complete the rest... Some of them are hardly more than just plain old beats, lol. Thus far, I've had people like around 3 of them right off hand, and a couple people liked it enough to request psysical CDs of it... There are no lyrics, just music.

And ty for offering to seed! =)

No problem. Glad to help. BTW, what software did you use to make the music/physical instruments? Be seeding in 30mins.

EDIT: 5 mins, upload speed just shot up by 150kbps :)

I used FL Studio XXL to make my beats, and I use(d) ACID to arrange and loop the beats and samples. I usually distort most of it by reducing or increasing the pitch of various clips, and by playing some of them in reverse. My goal it to make a sound I enjoy.
This project, "Into the Void" was inspired by Nine Inch Nails "Year Zero" album in part, but it was also inspired by Chemical Brothers "We Are the Night" and dozens of other songs that I'd be listening to when suddenly I knew I HAD to make some noise of my own.

The title of it is from a NIN song incidently, but also from the fact that the central concept is that something is wrong and it's only getting worse... Or rather, "It's coming!" lol.

OOH, I didn't see the physical instruments part! lol. Well, I didn't use any thus far because I have no way to record them. I can play keyboard, but i don't own one.

On a couple of tracks I used pre-made beats, but that turned into a horrid mistake because I could not freely create my own rythm, and I just could not find what I wanted royalty free, so I was like "f-this!" and got FL Studio.

I could try... not sure just were I could host them though, because the files are in high quallity mp3 thus pretty lager.

I will make the ones on my MySpace downloadable. On the main player you can download individual tracks.

Yes. I like it a lot. This is the producer's edtion, so I can do entire songs in it, but I have not learned much in it besides making beats.

I have Ableton Live, I just need to learn it... I like how ACID is laid out, so it is kinda hard to re-learn somethin g that is so completely different.

Sounding pretty good. Kinda reminds me of NIN Ghosts.

You need to learn guitar now. lol.

I see you like Industrial influences. Check this "band" out. http://www.myspace.com/destructionoftheshellofficial

I'm helping co-produce the album. Unfortunately, Nick lost the password to the page, so it hasn't been updated with the newer versions. lol.

I'm Keith in the band members, btw.

Kinda like it, Nice to chill out to when you can. Does feel like there is some thing missing though, but it takes time you'll get it :). There's some i heard on a radio channel like it, from a gadget.

I've gotten ACID to run on vista, and have since made several new tracks. I will keep produsing them until I feel it stands solid. Once that happens, I will toss around some ideas as to just WHAT I will do with these. Today I had someone offer to rap to one of my beats "Just strip out thwe ambient sounds and it's good to go for free-styling" lmao. I guess I DO need to re-learn guitar... It's been a long while since I've played it. I also need to re-learn the keyboard. One can only go so far with sample CDs and FL Studio.

I am waiting for it to load... oh, there it goes. I am listening now. You can retrieve the password via the email you used to sign up.

Also, I am honored to have it even VAUGLY compared to a NIN album. =) I am doing my best to not get too close into his territory because I want to keep my own sound, and not sound like a rip off. I have drawn further influence from other bands too.. I also started this before ghosts came out, and I have only listened to it once because I was scared that I might pull too heavilly off of it while working on sounds. some of the stuff I make though... wow, I just sit here and listen to songs and BOOM, I feel the urge to make a beat, so I try a couple times and there it is... Almost like someone else is doing it through me at times, lmao.

I am digging your guys' music... Planning on releasing it?

-D'oh!- I read the blog... so I assume it's been delayed a bit?

Well, why not create another page? =) That's what I would do atleast.

Well, when you get it all finished, start a thread and I will besure to order it or how ever you plan to release it. I am thinking I will skip on a lable because they are just so damn greedy.

Oh, and I added 2 more songs onto my myspace. They are the first 2 on the player.

Being on a lable is not really selling out in my book, because they DO promote your stuff atleast at no cost to you... Well, other than the money they make of albums sales you might not have been able to sell on your own. =P Atleast you get your name out there. BUT, NIN is the perfect example of what lables do to sucessful bands. Over price your CDs. But, without joining a lable in 1988 he'd prolly be no where... Then again, times have really changed too, with the internet and all.

I would like to be a full time musician, and to not have to worry about how I am gonna feed my room mate and her kids, or worry about bein homeless again and stuff... It really wears on me to worry all the time =(

Even with all that on my plate, I am still warry of lables, so I guess I will most likely stay independant.

Who knows, maybe one day when I least expect it someone will ask me to produce beats for them. =)

Labels don't promote for free. You have to pay all of that back. You even have to pay back studio time and such.

I'm happy you enjoy music, however.. 'different' and electronic music doesn't quite go well together ya know?

Now, maybe if you were wailing on a guitar like Steve Vai, and running around on stage like Slash, then I'd say at least you're doing something noone else is these days.

The problem with being 'different' is that you end up losing a lot of your style, your ideas, because you're so focused on thinking outside the box.

You have to ask yourself the question: Do you want to make music people want to listen to?; or make music that you enjoy creating?

A lot of times, unfortunatley, the two end up being mutually exclusive. The key to success in bringing them together.

Only a handful of musicians/bands have done that throughout the decades, and that's why they're never forgotten.

I fully intend to use my experiance in making beats and laying ambient sounds together as a base that I can draw inspiration from. I would like to move farther into the industrial scene in the future, perhaps sometime after I put out a CD or two... I am also hoping that as I learn more and more and become more talented, that I will gain an audiance that demands more, lol. Maybe that will never happen, but if it does, it will be great.

Now, I DO make what I like. If I don't like it, it does not make it past FL Studio, (or rarely ACID), or I remove it from my "current picks" playlist. The playlist is basically where I am putting songs as I complete them and I actively arrange them and listem to them to see that they fit together. If I grow tired of a track quickly, I remove it, or if I cannot make it fit, I remove it too. Sometimes after I make more songs, a track that got removed is put back. Now, what I like versus what other people will like... Well, I like a lot of music, so my sounds may have wide appeal if I get the exposure I need. (I had an internet DJ offer to play a track or two last year)

As to the name I use versus the noise I make... Well, I am currently seeking to get more agressive and more experimental, =P I not decided on a name that I like, so I will remain Different.

Now, I might take the songs I don't like so much and remake them under an other name. I think it'd be neat to have several on going projects, so I never get bored, but people would just view that as me tossing stuff at a wall to see what sticks, which is not my goal.

I will also be recording vocals for some of these tracks if I can ever get into a studio. I know a few people with the stuff I need, so I might give it a try this summer and see what I think of the end results. And I've even had 3 offers to do shows, but hell, do you know how lame it would be? It would merely be a CD listening party in my book, and pointless to charge people for.

I just thought that I should add that each time I am close to finishing off this Cd, I realize I need to keep working on it because I'm not through this phase yet. Once I feel I am done chronicling this era in my life, I will wrap it up and polish it off and move on to the next phase.

Okay, time for an update... As of August 27, 2008, my first CD is COMPLETE... I've made several new songs, remade MANY old ones, renamed the album to 'Broken Sounds' to reflect the over all feel of the album, and I made new album art, my avatar.

So... I got 3 of the new songs up on my MySpace (the link is in the first post) and I am requesting that you be kind enough to spare 12 minutes of your listening time and listen to them and tell me what you think. Those particular tracks are less than a week old - one, 'Flesh' is a total remake of an older track, while the other 2 are totally new. =)

I just listened through the tracks on your myspace. I liked Flesh more than Psychosis, and I didn't really like Noiz. It has some potential, but I really don't like the way the main drum sample sounds (bass is good though) . . . idk really how to describe what I don't like about it though :o.

Psychosis was good, I like atmosphere of it, but the percussive sample going with the bass doesn't sound very transparent. ie: it's really obvious that it's a sample imo. My stuff doesn't sound any better though, so whatever.

Flesh has the same problem I pointed out with Psychosis, but less noticeable. I really like the intro and everything else about it though.

Mastering sounds good, but I'm not listening too closely atm. If you can upload a compressed archive (preferably rar or 7zip) of the complete album in mp3 v0 or v2 anywhere that's not a torrent site, then I'll sit in the "sweet spot" and have a listen on my monitors.
