How much faster than a HD3870is a 8800GT ...
Im assuming the price on both will fall soon, with the intro of 4850 & 9800GT
about how much will both retail for when fallen?
Im getting a deal on a hd3870 and im wondering if i should move on it :(

The way the video card market has been for the past few generations, the 8800GT and 3870 may not even drop in price after the new cards come out.

Well if you get a good 3870 the core clock and mem clock are really high, and it has more stream processors than the 8800GT, so I would say that the 3870 is faster, even tho im a Nvidia fan. But it would be different if you go GTS/GTX.

No, the 8800GT is faster. You can't directly compare the number of stream processors. ATI's and nVidia's stream processors work differently. It's like comparing an AMD cpu to an Intel.

go for it, the 3870 is only a little bit slower than the 8800GT but the 3870 will overclock like hell right out the box

That just means Sapphire built it, and ATI slapped their own sticker on it. lol.

It may clock like hell, but it won't match a 8800GT still. I've owned both cards. Hands down, the 8800GT is faster and similarly priced.

the GT blows the ATi card out of the water. If you like AA in your games get the GT for sure.
I would even say get the GT if you were running CF 3870....

Visiontek or Sapphire then.
Good cards man, without a voltage mod my hd3870 will toast to 950 gpu stable, which is pretty sick.
HD3870 isn't that much slower than an 8800GT, I think it looks nicer, some argue otherwise some agree. If you can get a sweet deal on one, I would say go for it, it will make you a happy gamer.

cancel that order and get the xfx zalman 8800gt is faster your gonna be sorry because that was a mistake and I love ATI. With a easy soft mod it will run just about as fast as a 8800gts/9800gtx. Dalmut, Paul and I are all hardcore AMD CPU /GPU fans we have owned a bunch of these cards and wanted them to be better than the geforce lineup but they just flat aren't. That might change here soon. Get this card you asked and were told that cards not the one to get yet you didn't listen this is your card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150280 heck even a overclocked 8800gs/9600gso/9600gt will beat the card you ordered. With all the eye candy turned on.

its amazing to read these threads. Both cards are REALLY nice and for the money its crazy.
Remember the 7900GTX was $500...
i think the 8800GS/9600GSO is around the best value atm, hec its 8800 class performance at an insanely low price, if these cards existed 12 months ago.........

the hd3870 design is best for me as it exhausts heat, my climes are very warm.
yeah DHES is a great system, i use a Arctic Cooling DHES cooler on my 7800GTX 256 (nv5-rev1, yes it fits, with some solder :D) and its great for case temps. especially with a 3.2ghz core 2 on a stock cooler.

Well you should really start your own thread for this, not take someone else's. But you can't do sli w/ a x48, you'll need an sli board from nvidia for that. Any of the 8 or 9 series will do dx10. Since you already got an x48, I would say go w/ 3870x2 or so, or wait for the new ati cards to come out, which you can put in cf on that board.
