Okay, this may be a long shot but ...
Would it be possible to display a tooltip when hovering over the name of a currently active user (on both the main page and in forums) that showed what thread the user was viewing?
Sometimes you post in a thread and are waiting for a response from another user (or users) and continue to peruse the rest of the board. This would give a quick way to see if someone from whom you are awaiting a reply is in the thread.
Just a thought. It might be a programming nightmare.
I am sure W1zz will let me know in short order :D

Well there is a user list at the bottom of the thread..

Stalker.
That was a helpful response :nutkick:
You can get the information by going into the users public profile anyway.
Just thought it would be handy to have it more readily availalbe.

I know. I meant if you are not in the thread.

You can also just click on a users name and it shows what thread they're currently viewing right above their visitor messages.

I know that also. The thought was to not have to be forced to jump from page to page to get the info.

@DaMulta : That requires a new page load also. That is what I was trying to avoid.

Did not know about that DaMulta, thx! Does that show the location of "Invisible" users?
(Btw, your PM box is 98% full.):D

Actually I agree with that. Why would you want even easier access to someone to what someone is doing? What's wrong with looking at the users profile for instance? Or if you really require quick responses > IM.

Since the informtion is available anyway, it's not stalking or whatever.
IM is not a great solution as it takes the infromation out of the forums, and thus does not become available for other members.
I just thought it would be nice to be able to access the information without having to load additional pages to get it.
No sinister reasons here. ;) Just trying to make life easier.

I'm against it, because when I'll post in a thread, and forget about it, then the OP will keep following me around, like GJSNeptune said, stalking :(

I guess I don't understand your concern, TomCat.
A user can do that anyway by constantly checking your public profile or using the "whos online" function.
I really don't believe that people would stalk others if something like this could be implemented.
If that was an issue they would be doing it already through other means.

If people don't want to be seen, they shouldn't be seen.

If you don't want to be seen you can prowl around in invisible mode like Dan.
I don't know about this idea. It sounds difficult to implement for little benefit.

I never thought about invisible mode.

if you put the activity tooltip on every username it will create a ton of extra database accesses .. look on this page how many usernames are displayed - one query for each. won't happen

Thanks W1zz. I thought this might create a lot of server overhead, but I thought I would ask anyway.
