This is turning out to be PITA.
Finding a dual slot AIR cooling solution for the 3850 that will still enable Crossfire seems impossible.
Any one with some helpful links? I'm aware of Arctic Cooling's product. i'm a huge AC fan, but not a fan of that product. Running it in turbo mode requires 3 slots. so that rules out Crossfire for my mobo. Plus, they block the Crossfire connectors. True you can run crossfire without the connectors - but you'll run into a performance hit having to send all the communication back through the PCIE bus.
I wish sapphire would sell the cooler on their atomic 3870s.... thats a badass cooler

Get a Thermalright HR-03 GT VGA-Kühler for the card nearest the CPU. This takes the heat to the other side and leaves the crossfire bridge clear. Perhaps add a fan also. (Since its passive).

For the other, get a Zalman VF1000

I have the VF1000 and I'm really impressed with it. Crossfire bridge, I think is free, I'll take some pictures tonight for you if you like.

Sorry for the poor quality, I can take more if you like. The Crossfire malarkey isn't on my AGP card obviously but hopefully you'll be able to judge where it'd be etc etc.

I installed the "Thermaltake Duorb". It had clearance issues till I adjusted it with a high speed die grinder (1 spot only). My temps dropped from 78C loaded to 50C loaded and it's quieter.

hey Kemhof,
I was running zalman vf900`s on my crossfire setup, i had some clearance issues so i removed the little sprinngs and also filed down the lugs a bit..i picked these coolers because they circulate air from all around the card (not just directly under) you can see pics of the setup here.

Don't forget the AC Accelero S2 and the Turbo with the fans :)

I haven't forgotten the AC acellero. I'm a huge fan of AC. I use their paste and CPU coolers. I used their old GPU coolers on my ATI 850.
However - I don't like Accelero S2 for crossfire - and the turbo mode requires 3 slots. vs the 2 slots of the duorb and vf1000. If you only have 1 card - then the acellero will work fine, but i'm running crossfire.
